It is with great sadness to report Eddie Van Halen has passed after his long battle with throat cancer. Eddie passed at age 65. The guitar great brought a whole new dimension to guitar playing. Van Halen was formed in 1972, by brothers Alex and Eddie, adding Michael Anthony and David Lee Roth. The band released four albums before Roth Left the group. Sammy Hagar stepped in as lead vocalist. This time they had four number albums and a greatest hits album, before Sammy left the group. Gary Cherone was the third lead vocalist and that lasted for only one album. Eddie was first diagnosed with throat cancer in 2001.

I was very glad I got to see Van Halen in 2004. The show was fantastic. Sadly Eddie's playing was not what it used to be. ( the sound people buried him under the sound). He also mumbled constantly during the set about how we were helping him pay his rent. It was very sad to see this happen to a great guitarist. Hopefully he is a better place and whole again, playing with the other greats that left us far too soon.

He was indeed one of the greats.

I will always remember Eddie Van Halen as the guy who ALWAYS smiled when he played.

You could tell, back in the day, he was so happy when he played. Never saw him in later years, and sad to hear that he was mumbling about the shows in those later years were helping pay for rent. You would have thought with Van Halen being such a household name, he would have been able to live a good life in his later years, despite his health.
