Saga, Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples Empty

I haven't seen this series mentioned elsewhere, but if folks are looking for something incredible to read after the end of FQ, I strongly recommend the Saga series from Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples.  I'm sure a lot of folks are already aware of it, it's been a big hit for so many years, but to my mind the praise is completely deserved.  Fiona Staples' art is absolutely jaw-dropping.  The plot is mature, engaging, and often shocking.  This one's strictly for adults (explicit sex, drugs, and violence). Despite that warning, it's actually incredibly wholesome, since at heart it's the story of a family, the struggles of marriage, and the love between parents and their children.

The basic premise--combatants from opposite sides in an endless galactic war fall in love against the odds, the first relationship of its kind in the history of their races.  Both of their governments want to destroy them before their secret--that reconciliation between combatants is possible--can get out.  The couple must fight for their lives, and for the life of their daughter.  The story blends fantasy (magic) and technology (futuristic space setting), although that's a gross oversimplification.  The feel of the entire series is totally original.

I'm a big fan of many Brian K. Vaughn series (Y: The Last Man, Runaways), but the art in those series never grabbed me the way Fiona Staples' does.  Her work in Saga is the best I've seen since early Wendy Pini, I just love it.

Saga is nice, the main couple is just a little too perfect for my taste Smile

Perfect? Maybe.  Of course if you mean that they're both drawn attractive, I consider that more a feature than a bug Wink

As the series goes on, I think they're actually pretty brave about introducing their flaws and inadequacies.
Spoiler:

Perhaps they get a more sympathetic treatment at the very beginning so that the reader will care about their story, but many of the issues are about the ways in which they mess up and hurt each other, purposefully and inadvertently.  But to each their own, no story works the same for everyone!
