Oh, we should add Father Tree (Holt) to the list too!
And maybe the other holts too?

And if someone can point me in the direction of the issue where I can find the Preserver "Tittersweet", I will search for that translation too...

*edit* Now I'm rereading OQ for translations of the locations Wink
Anyway, found this so far:
Holt - Borg - Bail, or castrated male pig, also specific type of home similar to a stronghold/castle.
Lodestone - Zeilsteen - Sailstone
High Ones - Allerhoogsten - Most High / Supreme Ones
Shenshen - unchanged

Thank you for the translations, Redhead. They are added.  Ember
Thanks for the suggestions, fae flower and the work to look up more translations. I'll gather them here for now - for later use.

I've finished the name collections as far as I had gotten it on EQ.com. Those are new additions that were translated to some languages ... translation is  still missing in others.

Brill -
Snakeskin -
Surge -

Warfrost -

Holt - Borg - Bail, or castrated male pig, also specific type of home similar to a stronghold/castle.

Father Tree Holt -
Goodtree's Rest -
Sorrow's End -
Forbidden Grove -
Blue Mountain -
Frozen Mountains -
Howling Rock -
Crest Point -

Wolfriders -
Sunfolk -
Gliders -
Go-Backs -
Wavedancers -
High Ones - Allerhoogsten - Most High / Supreme Ones

Madcoil -

Chosen Eight - Verkozen Acht - Chosen Eight
Mother of Memory -
the Mountain Tall -
Lodestone - Zeilsteen - Loadstone (literally:SailStone)

Suggested additions - not done so far:

Shenshen - unchanged
Teir - unchanged
Chitter/Freetouch - no translation known yet
Sust - no translation known yet
Pool - no translation known yet

Anyone help with those? Or even add a language I could not list so far?
Thank you for your support and feeding my interest! sunny

Found one extra translation thanks to this post on EQ.com ....

and I must say.... YUCK that one sucks!!!

Sunstream - Geelvloed - Yellow flood (high tide)

:faceplant: I'm like "seriously??? Couldn't they have gone with something, anything else?!?! Zonnestraal (Sunbeam) or something? I guess they wanted to keep the Geel (yellow) part in because Suntop = Geelhaar (yellow hair)... but come on!?!?!?!

Zeilsteen actually does translate as lodestone (but if you look at the two parts of the word - 'zeil' and 'steen' -, individually they indeed translate as 'sail' and 'stone').

A bit more translations.

Sorrow's End - Sorgenfri (Free of Sorrow, it's also the name of a Danish cafe chain)
Blue Mountain - Det Blå Fjellet (The Blue Mountain)

Wolfriders - Ulverytterne (The Wolfriders)
Sunfolk - Solfolket (The Sun People)
Gliders - Flyvere/flygere (The Fliers)
Go-backs - Snøfolket (The Snow People

Madcoil - Vanvidd (Madness)

Those are the ones I remember! Though I don't own any copies of the Norwegian translation anymore, so I might be a bit inaccurate.

Alright... I'm gonna hijack this and list what the characters would've been named in Danish if their names had simply been translated directly, in some cases this is actually what their names has been translated as. I'm - mainly - using Google Translate, and splitting names into their "parts".

Acorn: Agern

Bearclaw: Bjørneklo

Berrybuzz: Bærsummen

Bitterscreech: Bitterskrig

(the) Bone Woman: Knoglekvinden

Brace: Støtte (GT suggested 'tandbøjle', but that would be too silly.)

Brightwater: Lysvand

Brownberry: Brunbær

Buckthorn: Havtorn

Bumbleclaw: Klumreklo

Clearbrook: Klarbæk However, when I wrote it in one word GT actually did suggest 'Skovbæk', which her name has been translated as

Coral: Koral

Crescent: Halvmåne

Cutter: Skærer

Demontricker: Dæmonsnyder

Dewshine: Dugskin GT does suggest 'Morgendug', but that's not actually the direct translation of the two parts 'dew' and 'shine'

Door (both of them): Dør ('Dør' also kinda means 'dies'... two different words, same spelling...

Dreamsinger: Drøm(me)sanger

Drift: Drive

Drub: Tæske

(More to follow)

I wanted to add one name translation for Dutch...

Haken - untranslated (but actually it is an existing word in Dutch, haken means hooks!)

Haken is basically a giant fishing bait! XD

btw: It's the same in German: Haken = hook. I just never realized it!

Hey guys, hey Embala!

Just had a few small things/touch ups for the Danish translations (Well, mainly the retranslations)

I realise some of the retranslations are done "for effect", but I thought I'd nitpick anyway, so where our Danish forummers feel I'm wrong, let me know and we'll suss it out.

Huntress Skyfire is Himmelild (Probably just a typo Smile )

Mantricker wouldn't so much be "wily" soul as he would be "crafty" soul.

A translation of "Flodfisker" would more likely be Riverfisher.

As doofy as it sounds, Joyleaf would end up as Goldenfoliage (leaf is "blad").

In regards to Cutter (And I would LOVE to get a discussion going on this!!!):
As much as the Danish world "Ilder" does indeed mean ferret/polecat, I always felt there was more to it than just that. Right from the get go I always pronounced it with a hard d instead of the silent one, as a play on the word "Ilter" (for the non-Danes: feisty/fiery/hotheaded/temperamental it can be a positive and a negative).
I'm fairly certain (from a character/story perspective) that a well meaning translator kinda fucked it up and we ended up with the written word "Ilder" to connect him to nature through giving him an animal name, but through his connotation were meant to also connect him with the meaning "Ilter". It's late and I'm having a hard time being legible, but if my point came across, join in the discussion Smile

Skywise would be Interpret (Or Decipher, whichever one you go with. Really nitpicking here. Elucidate, Illuminate and Unravel could also be retranslated names for him as Tyde doesn't translate well...).

Redlance would be Redhawthorn.

Pike wouldn't translate back into Pike. It would be Peg as mentioned (or tent peg.. What exactly was this translator on? Wink ).

The Danish translation of Dart, Lillepil is missing an L (lilLe).

Rainsong seems like a typo? Retranslation should be Raindrop.

Suntop should be Sunbrush (Brush as in "lightly touch", no "a brush").

I would argue that the retranslation of Winnowill should be Windblow, but I'm happy to have a discussion about that.

Aroree - Aurora. While we have "nordlys" (northern lights) we also often just call it aurora, like the latin name. I'm gonna assume the translator of Elverfolket didn't miss this rather glaring connection, no? After all, we find the northern lights in the sky...

Two-Edge's retranslated name is, indeed, Two-Edge. The word æg means "cutting edge" (And yes, also egg). Hence a Tveægget Sværd is a Two-edged Sword.

Picknose's retranslated name should be either Arrownose or Willownose. Picknose would be Pillenæse.

Old Maggoty retranslated should be Old Venomtoad.

Guttlecraws retranslation - Squanderbuttock would be more appropriate.

Berrybuzz retranslated should be Berrybuzzer.

Is Cutter's wolf's name really StormFJER? Can someone doublecheck? I'm driving through France, so I can't.

The Sunfolk can easily translate back into The Sunfolk. No need to put "The Sunpeople".

Same way, Gliders can be retranslated to The Flyingfolk, though in this case it hardly matters.

A more accurate retranslation of the Go-Backs would be The Homecomers.

Madcoild retranslates to The Death Snake (not dead snake, lol!)
