I think in general it's gone from 'that's not ladylike' to I'll just ignore the girl's behavior and not encourage her to be boy like. I'm wondering how unconscious it is, too. It's very possible that mother wasn't even aware of what she was doing, it's like social conditioning that gets repeated on autopilot. Exactly! Like all those studies that show when girls/women in the classroom talk even a third of the time, they're perceived as taking over the discussion. A lot of it is absolutely unconscious, yet incredibly damaging. Very illuminating story, Lunakat.

Wonder what to bring for hollyday, I always bring too muchsort of sillly to bring a smaller book that I haven't even getting started on instead of the bigger one I begun a while ago. Too many books, not enough eyes:face: . And if I should take a bicycle ride tomorrow while I can.

| I’m looking up pictures of Teir and got reminded of the bit where Skywise’s knee-jerk reaction to meeting him for the first time is to pull his knife on him.
I've gotta wonder he'd have done that if Teir had been female. ___________________________________________________ 'We're all broken, in different ways, in varying degrees.'

| I wonder how weird my boyfriend thinks I am. He's working on creating an egg sculpture for the museum (teehee) and I keep asking him how the work on the great Egg is going, and whether he will be adding another layer. Then i tell him that once he's done it will be quite mesmerizing. He's starting to look at me strangely lol. It does however look amazing, nothing like 'the' egg, but still mesmerizing enough ___________________________________________________ Thank you for the beautiful banner, Embala | |

| My ex fiancé just had a baby with another woman and gave it the name we talked about nearly fifteen years ago. Even though I'm marrying someone else and we don't talk anymore-- I'm angry. Is that normal? | |

| That would piss me off too. I know it's not rational but it's still at the very least annoying because it's so personal. It's not like he had to check with you, but jeez dude, couldn't you come up with another name? ___________________________________________________ Thank you for the beautiful banner, Embala | |

| Well... my brain first decided to skip the ex part in this... As for the name; I'd say it depends. How did you "decide" upon it back then? Was he the one who bought it up - perhaps because it was the name of some relative? If so, then you probably shouldn't be angry. However, if you bought it up, or even if you agreed upon it together, then you have every right to be angry. Though I kinda wonder where the mother was in all this. She didn't think it was weird that her bf decided to give their child the name he'd talked about with his ex? ___________________________________________________ "When you do what you love best, you shine where you love."Come play the Who Am I game! | |

| Well- actually, my ex could have been the mother. I don't know. She picked the name. I'm not sure why I was mad. Maybe because it's weird to watch the life we planned together unfolding with some other person. Like you could just fit anyone into that slot. Like the two Beckys on Roseanne. | |

| I'm wondering why do they keep harassing the women? I'm under the impression they could get killed/attacked for not wearing that.
I really can't see how it's going to help anything? (then again, they're not trying to help) Why keep poking the the part of a people who have little to no seen power?
Would they demand the males get rid of their beards and pull out some shaving gear if they refused. ___________________________________________________ 'We're all broken, in different ways, in varying degrees.'

No worries. Why would you think that would be the case? It's atypical. Yeah-- I dated her for almost ten years. Never again.

| @ Lunakat, sorry, I assumed your ex was a she. @ Shadowpath, there's the assumption that these are poor helpless indoctrinated women are soooo repressed so let's force them not to. And you make a very good point. It's still sexist, why *shouldn't* the men be forced to shave.

Erhm, I don't think they're indoctrinated. Sorry if I gave you that impression. It's just still somewhat believed it's a mandatory thing? I think it's weird that they keep using footage of woman who are going to school or getting an education while still squawking 'THEY'RE BEING REPRESSED!' I don't see why they're targeting them. Like, it covers their hair. You can see their faces. And I really don't see why we think our ways are better. ___________________________________________________ 'We're all broken, in different ways, in varying degrees.'

| You're 100% right about the targeting, it's just plan wrong. I don't think you think they're indoctrinated. It's the sentiment being aimed at them which is under that assumption. Of course there are some instances in which this is correct. In general though, it's very wrong, as you seem to already be aware, yourself. I think they're being targeted and it's like let's pick on the new foreign kid and make them feel really uncomfortable. It's bullying behavior.
On another note: It's not a mandatory thing nor is it a religious thing necessarily (not in certain countries). It's just been equated with religion and it's also just a social phenomena in a few countries.
