| Well, frankly, the elves wouldn't recognize the value of the indigenous sentient species on this planet if they bit them in the nose. | |

I wanted to bring some more non-elf worshipping human spirituality in, and I was very lightly inspired by the Indigenous communities here in Canada(although the Eagle Woman isn't based on any specific religious figure). And I also thought that the idea that the people who are actually native to the planet not having magic was basically stupid. In fairness, the human's magic is supposed to be "asleep" and I've always had the impression that some few of them - such as the shaman of the Hoan G'tay Sho who said "and the lie which is the truth shall bring more pain than the truth which is a lie" - do have some, even if it's not a kind the elves recognize. Yeah-- most of the elves seem incapable of appreciating the variety within human cultures. I think Kathleen is right and they see them as all one. The Prime Directive is not their thing. My whole take on Elfquest, when I read the Original Quest, was that the home planet was supposed to be like Earth and the elves are what we (or those like us) evolve into. I guess, since Leetah says that human magic is asleep, the humans of abode have the same capacity. I always saw it as a comment on where Wendy Pini saw humanity heading vs where she wished it could head. Of course we will become the technologically advanced species that the elf ancestors were before their planet died. And eventually, through our technology, we will manage interstellar travel. But in her ideal word, some of us learn to care for our dying planet, care enough to tend it, and in doing so, give up the technology that may have destroyed it and find within ourselves some new form of evolution-- something more in tune with nature.

| Only, of course, to travel into space, gaining eons of knowledge and wisdom-- then crash land on a distant planet where we forget everything and the whole cycle starts again. | |

| Just wanted to say, since I keep forgetting to on a03, that this is such a good fic! I'm not nearly caught up, but what I've read so far is such a neat alternate take on the story. It had me at Leetah telling Cutter, "I like you." | |

| Thank you so much. Honestly, the second story is not as good as the first one, and I apologize for that. I haven't written for a long time, and I'm out of practice. I edited it just now and got rid of some spelling errors and grammar thingies. | |

| I 'm enjoying your fanfic so much! I like your take on the characters, I like how you give them edges and dimensions (elves and humans alike), the "feeling of time" instead of fast-forward storytelling (most authors do that to skip pregnancies and early childhood periods), the element of frailty! ___________________________________________________ It's a dolphin!

| Catching up on this! I like very much so far. I'll have to give it a second read to remind myself of everything as I've lost some threads. Fuzzy-foggy brain. Too much Now.
But glad to see more new writing! Inspiring! ___________________________________________________
