| His life was cut short, but not before he played an important part in Troll and Elf history. ___________________________________________________ | |

| Smelt-Two Edge's Father ... this was Smelt's thread, opened by Magic_Toenail, on the original Scroll of Colors. Follow old discussions and see fanart from earlier times.
Visit Smelt's bio page on Elfquest.com. ___________________________________________________ Indem du etwas tust, das dir oder jemand anderem gefällt, erschaffst du bereits einen Wert.

| I know this isn't a fanfiction thread, but I just had to share one of my Monthly Grab Bag stories.
The Grab-Bag theme from February 2008 was: Something or someone falling from a high place. A question of trust. First vague signs of spring. Rain. Baby booties.
I came up with this:
Opening theme to “The Winnie and Smelt Show."
Winnie and Smelt, Winnie and Smelt,
What an un-like-ly pair!
He’s green and warty and she has long hair!
Way down to there!
Winnie and Smelt, Winnie and Smelt,
She’s in love – with herself!
He’s on a mission to capture an Elf
And bring it back to his King!
She doesn’t suspect a thing!
Living room in the bowels of Blue Mountain. Winnowill is seated on an Art Deco print couch, knitting a pair of baby booties. A slender irridescent pitcher sits on the coffee table in front of her.
Smelt enters stage left, slams door. Applause.
Door: **Yeeouch!**
Smelt: Heya, Peachie-buns! I’m home! I gotcha somethin’!
(Presents Winnie with a bouquet of daffodils.)
Winnie: Aww, Lumpy-kins, you shouldn’t have!
(Pecks Smelt on the cheek as he plops down on the sofa.)
Smelt: I know you Elf chicks don’t care much for toadstools, and I couldn’t find any nightshade this early in the year.
Winnie: These’ll do just fine! (Picks up pitcher, places daffodils in pitcher, sets on coffee table.)
Winnie (tousling Smelt’s hair and cuddling up next to him): So how was your day, dear?
Smelt: Oh, the usual… another day in the salt mines! HAH! Salt mines! Get it? (Laughs.) Not too bad. Almost got hit by a falling stalactite, and it rained so hard the shaft flooded.
(Picks up remote and starts flipping channels.)
Smelt: Can’t we at least get CNN on this Egg?… Hey, whatcha knittin’?
Winnie (grinning): A little surprise. I’ll tell you about it over dinner.
Smelt: Great! I’m famished! Your cooking always brings me back to life.
Winnie (tousling Smelt’s hair): I’ll bet you’re exhausted too, dear.
Smelt: I’ll say! But I can’t help thinking… there’s something I was supposed to do. Something real important like. (Close up of Smelt’s face as he strokes his beard and looks puzzled.)
Winnowill (to herself): I wonder… how far can I trust him?
(Fade out, cut to commercial.) ___________________________________________________

| I don't think so. I guess, that he got a page because they updated the trolls, that were missing... Unfortunately Bupa- Flam's lifemate - doesn't have her own page, yet... ___________________________________________________ | |

| Must have been in a hurry when I've looked in last time. How could I miss this little gem ... O.O Your "contemporary TV show" take on the Winni & Smelt theme is gorgeous, Trollbabe! Hilarious. Seriously. ^^ You made me chuckle all the time - starting with the intro. Makes me wish to know US American sitcoms better ... XD "slams door* ... Took me a moment to understand! ... a normal day at the salt mines (okay - don't get this special part) for dear old Smelt XD and he's so innocent about knitting baby booties. ^^ You've not even forgotten the commercials! Fabulous job, Trollbabe! ___________________________________________________ Indem du etwas tust, das dir oder jemand anderem gefällt, erschaffst du bereits einen Wert. | |

| Thank you, Embala!
In the 1960s, during the "Cold War" between the USA and the USSR, it was a common joke among American workers to compare a difficult or unpleasant occupation to "the salt mines" to which Soviet prisoners were rumored to be sent.
Americans younger than fifty probably never heard this expression. They may be more familiar with recent pictures of Russia's sylvinite mines, which are actually stunningly beautiful: https://weather.com/photos/news/a-peek-inside-russias-psychedelic-salt-mine
Since Smelt was a grown adult when he was sent to find a rockshaper, he might have already had relationships, even children, before the mission. ___________________________________________________

| I thank for the explanation, Trollbabe. WOW ... the size of this mine and the salt hills is impressive. And those colors ... STUNNING! ___________________________________________________ Indem du etwas tust, das dir oder jemand anderem gefällt, erschaffst du bereits einen Wert. | |

| I think this would be a good setting for an Elfquest story. ___________________________________________________ | |
