Dangit! I thought Sonny had worked out the concept of value. That's a great drawing and I love it as a cover idea-- one of the best yet! Having it all orange and warm hues is brilliant. But everything is the same value (again)-- so all the detail is getting lost. Can someone teach this guy the differences between value, hue and saturation? If he were to put this image in greyscale mode rather than cmyk (which I presume he's using, since this has to print), he would see that there is very little contrast. Only Cutter is standing out-- and that's not good. It's not deliberate either. There needs to be a foreground, middle ground and background, delineated by the color and values. Wendy drew it-- can he please color it?

You can't even see Leetah! Please don't let it be the case he colored the rest of the issue this way. He was doing so well in the last two issues.

Moonshade and Strongbow worked out their differences? They don't look happy (well, Moonshade is only capable of one facial expression anyway), but they are at least holding hands. Freetouch dances with a mystery elf, so maybe that the new union? Looks like a woman's ass to me, but could also be a guy's.

All drama that happens in #19 will stay in #19, apparently.
The new life is Venka's child, I guess?
And finally, after how many issues, the threatiest threat ever, the humans and their mega uber weapon arrive, ...or not

You can't see Leetah? Funny, I can see her just fine. She's right there, in Cutter's arms.

Now, how long are all those people gonna keep their clothes on?

The coloring is really bad, valuewise. It's just remedial. And no, I can't see her well at all. I didn't see her at first glance, because she blends with the background. Because of the coloring.

What a chaotic drawing.
But nice to see the Strongbow family! Very Happy
Strongbow and Moonshade together again? Rolling Eyes I'm so tired of them.
I had not even seen Freetouch is actually dancing with somebody until Miss Gillespie mentioned it.

I personally think the drawing itself is fine! It's great, even. It's well organized. The color disorganizes it and makes it look chaotic, because it blends everything together.

I mean- don't get me wrong. The hues are pretty. The drawing is great. The colors themselves (hues) are pretty. There is no thought (none) given to value and so all of the detail gets lost thanks to how it is colored.

This is my one, consistent and specific complaint about Sonny. Where is Leetah? Seriously. She's the same value as both Pike and the tree:

I can't tell what I dislike more. The extreme close-up of Pike's face or the berries looking so...blurry and flat.

I really like the composition of the cover but to me Strongbow&Moonshade stick out as copypasted and that ruins it for me. I can't unsee reused material :/

And that... (also c&p)

It's saddens me that not even for the covers she can stop using c&p *sigh*

I like the cover as such ... love the warm colors. I was afraid that Lunakat would point out lack of contrast ... I seem to get a feel for it.
I share Shadowpath's problem with the extreme Pike close-up ... mostly because extremely orange-golden teeth, I guess. Can teeth have - in whatever light - the same color quality as red hair? Sorry .. but he obviously got a set of golden replacements. Even the elves in the middle ground have whiter teeth. I like the dreamberries - tho they didn't match the ones Mrs. Pini has drawn in Dreamtime.
Strangely the first detail I noticed were Strongbow and Moonshade in the background. (Could be due to the extreme blowup on my screen, tho - it puts them in the center. But they appear clearer ... brighter than the rest to me ... where does the light come from - so far in the background?
This cover is one of the few scenes where the Mender/Dart relationship looks ... natural ... right ... touching for me. I really like this dancing scene.
Freetouch is likely dancing with a Go-Back chick ... or guy.

About the teaser text ... umh... which teaser? XD Tell me something even remotely new to speculate about - or let it be. Actually the cover is capable to spark more speculation than this text.

(... wants to whiten Pike's teeth ... just a bit ...)

I love the movement in this cover. Very Happy

This cover is one of th

For me they pop out because the line art is different, it is compared to the others to fine and for the background to detailed.

Yeah ... almost if they don't belong there ... if THIS part of the cover is a collage.

Strongbow is a definitely reused. Compare him to this picture from FQ15; just the face is slightly altered and the limbs a repositioned:

D*** ... add Moonshade. It's pretty much from FQ #11 - the "oh look I've got my wolfblood removed" scene. You'll juge better than me but it looks like ... :/

Would mean this couple really don't "fit in" the celebration scene. Sad

Oh gods don't get me started on wendy's copy pasting. XD I'm still shaking my head over one bad case where the Wavedancers leader seem to missing the lower half of his right arm.
And that really weird copy past of Sunstream that popped up twice now.

Poor Sunstream is the most c&p character in FQ, I think...
One day when I have to much time I should do c&p FQ gallery or something Evil or Very Mad

Guess that's "Cover Moonshade" - from Final Quest #11

*sigh* ... the worst thing for me is that I cannot stop thinking: "That's what I do with my collages!"

Now now your collages are wonderful Em! There's nothing wrong with how you make them.

Embala, no. That is something different. You use someones material to create something new and your collages are beautiful! We know your art pieces are collages and see them as collages (which in itself is nothing bad and is an art form!). But here I see overly used stock figures to short cut the drawing process. FQ is kinda hyped (by the WP herself) as the last original Elfquest master piece and WP is known as an artist who draws, not making collages. If she would use c&p just for sequences, that would be fine, but I see the same poses, body stock figures, facial expressions etc. all over FQ and they stick out (to me), it's like the beloved characters I used to know are just made out of cardboard and stuck into a scene Crying or Very sad
Just to clarify: I have nothing against using digital art and it's tools in itself but here it bugs me somehow...  No

Even reusing one's own images can be ok, if it's part of the style (David Mack did this a lot in his Kabuki), but that's not Wendy's style. Yeah, we all talked our hate for her FiQu "Ctrl+V"-style to death, didn't we?

Hm, I'm also not a big fan of using airbrush/gradient tool for colouring :/ (please refer to Luna's value complaint)

@Embala: Just like coffee and nicotine consumption will stain your teeth, so does dreamberry consumption. Especially after several centuries. Have we ever seen elves brush their teeth? I think not
