| Just a heads up for disappearing again
BOTH of my laptops are now down. My NEW one (only 2 months old) is currently in the repair shop and has been for a week now with no word as to when it will be done. I honestly have no hope for it. It has Window 8 and the proxy setting refuses to "save", therefore keeps kicking me offline every 5 minutes. The guy says there's no way to fix that because Windows 8 is just that fucktarded
I have to wait on fixing the old one due to having to pay for the new one first. And I still don't know what that bill will be. The old one needs the plug in port completely replaced (which was supposed to be done the first time I had it in another repair shop, but it wasn't), which will cost about $125. I won't take it back to the initial place that was supposed to fix it, because due to all the damn problems I had with those people the ENTIRE month of February to fix my son's laptop, I'm sick of dealing with them.
So from time to time, I manage to get on my son's laptop to check messages and such. As soon as I get mine back, I'll return ASAP. I'm really sorry, especially to you Leanan, for disappearing from our RP. But I've been fighting laptop battles since December and there seems to be no end to it ><

| Just going to throw an idea out there if you are in the US. Radio shack is going out of business. Ours still has some smartphone track phones at 50% off, making them about $30 with a choice of android or windows OS. Its not much per se, but it definetly could be used with WiFi for internet browsing and posting. Dont even need a plan to use it for that. $30 for a back up device isnt too bad, in comparison.
If you were in the northwest US, Id fix your computers for free (well, perhaps parts in some cases, but still cheaper and no labor). PM me if you want to try to work out some sort of mailing arrangement or something.
BTW, if you are a electronic nerd like me or want to do the phone-as-backup thing above, according to our store the prices drop a bunch more tomarrow. ___________________________________________________

I think all of our Radio Shacks are gone now... and what you described just now I am totally clueless about O.o *giggles* I'm totally clueless about smartphones/Iphones/Ipads/Iwhatevers/Androids, etc etc - Quote :

Aw, thank you Trollhammer! But I do happen to have a cousin in Nevada who's fiance who's also in the same field and they offered too! But the good news is, I just got my new laptop back from the repair shop today! And so far everything seems to work splendidly! - Quote :

I know absolutely nothing about electronics. I'm the type of gal who wishes there some way to go back to the horse and buggy days, and when people actually hand wrote letters to each other <__< But yes, like I said, I FINALLY got this thing back today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Hope to see you all soon!

| OMG! Don't they check things before they send them out? I'd be marching in the shop and whacking them round the back of the head with the damn thing until I get a refund. Please tell me you did that!! ___________________________________________________ Zebbed as the First Lady of Naughtyniceness! | Okay totally didn't see the replies and questions. So sorry. But yes! Yes I did check my laptop before leaving the shop and everything worked splendidly! It wasn't until I was on it for 3 hours that night that it suddenly froze, blue screened, blackscreened, made chicken clucking noises then crashed with a reboot disc message I read to an IT Tech friend of mine. I did take it back to the shop the next day but of course they claim it was of no fault of their own since they only cleaned out the viruses and malware. Not hardware work so they wanted to charge me another $185. I THINK its still under Toshiba's warrenty. I have a friend who's going to help me figure that out. *hugs to all* | |

| I hate to say this, Kin- but once your hard-drive crashes... I think that's pretty much it. You need a new computer. A new hard-drive is basically a new computer anyway- just in an old frame. | |

| It really sucks these days. This is built-in obsoleteness, implemented decay.
I have my reasons for using laptops / notebooks only in emergencies. They are hardly repairable. Classic computers are more modular and can be repaired much better, or extended if there is a need. Also you know what you get when you build it from parts and nobody tries to sell you Microsoft or Apple software with it. Or preinstalled ad- bloat- and crapware. No being at mercy of laptop manufacturers. And I have seen much in the past 25 years I've been with computers.
And yes. Always make backups. It'll really save you the day. You can replace all sorts of hardware with a little bit (or a bit more) of money but you self-created data... not. Unless you pay real experts and that can be freaking expensive.
About warranties it differs from country to country so I can give you much advice. Normally the warranty is longer for the laptop than for its battery but they might also have exceptions in their policy.
Well, anyway, good luck with that.

| Thank you jaRf ^_^ and I do agree with you about Classic computers being much better. But the fact that I constantly have to move around this house in order to find some quiet so I can write, the laptop proves to be a bit more convenient My 4 year old Toshiba lappy still works beautifully tho! Never a virus or any problems ever. THAT one needs a new plug in port >< Which I already paid out the wahzoo to be fixed, only to find that it never was -.- This new one with the blown hard drive... I'm pretty sure the company warranty is still good and I just need to get on the ball and file some sort of form through their website first. A friend of mine's husband knows exactly what I need to do and write, but with our crazy schedules, I haven't had time to call yet. And computers were supposed to make things easier! ___________________________________________________ Compliments go to Embala for bringing a British cat and an American dog together via Photoshop! chibi cutter compliments of katcombs! | Warranties also vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Most have a limited 6 month warranty. ___________________________________________________ Reese's, Kashmir's, and Tequila's mommy. | |
