PostSubject: Henlo! I've never read ElfQuest!   Henlo! I've never read ElfQuest! EmptyMon Jun 29, 2020 8:53 pm

I go by Djehuty Thoth-Ra, but just DJ is fine by me!  I'm an artist and an enthusiast for good design, so when I saw Wendy's art for the first time I was pretty taken aback by just how gorgeous her characters and world are - even the 'ugly' parts!  I haven't read an entire ElfQuest issue, and honestly, I don't really think I will, but that's part of what gives the world it's mystique to me.  I would LOVE to experience the World of Two Moons, but I don't want to do it through another's perspective.  I want to experience it, not watch someone else do it - however chiseled his chest or... Epic his mutton chops may be.  Ahum.  I look forward to getting to know you all and sharing good art and writing with each other!

In retrospect it's probably a good idea to give an example of my work, so here's Libram!  SFW

Hi Dj!! I'm Vaeri, named for my EQ oc(see avatar)! Can't tell you how thrilled i am to see another artist here and such beautiful work!!!!! Scouter i'm more of a colorist and designer but a passable artist. Hope maybe you won't mind me coloring some of your art if you post any black and white stuff!

Did you know majority of Elfquest is available online? Perhaps you could read it eventually that way?

Hi there, Vaeri! Thank you very much for liking my work, I put a lot of effort into my art~ If I ever post anything in black and white, by all means, go right ahead and color it up for practice all you like! I'd love to see what sorts of shades and textures you bring to my characters! I'm very much aware that the majority of EQ is available online, and though I am interested in the world, I want to experience it fresh from my own character's perspective through role play at some point or another. I feel I know enough to be able to create a character who would eventually come to adapt themselves to the World of Two Moons as they travel and experience it, while maintaining enough creative freedom to be able to make a character I would actually want to play and tell the story of. Hopefully that can happen sometime soon!

All the good artists put a lot of work into their creations ^_-. Can't wait to see more of your art regardless!

Hmm i wish you luck with experiencing EQ through roleplay! Sounds like what you might be looking for is a Holt. Not sure how many are accurate to the canon though...heck even Vaeri comes from a parallel version of the canon EQ i created. So i'm not sure how much of the story you'd get through that...but hey i could be wrong!^^ Regardless, i'm sure you'll learn through interacting with all of us here!

Also love the Egyptian gods influence in your name! Huge Ancient Egyptian mythology and culture buff here. So you have a particular interest/affiliation for Thoth and Ra?

Thank you very much again! I love drawing and it's a strong passion of mine I'm trying very hard to make into a career, and it's starting to slowly but surely pay off. Past that, I figure so long as I experience it with fans of the franchise I'll get as genuine an experience as possible, 'canon' or not - after all, one of the great draws of role playing is being able to create your own experiences within the universe provided.~ Aaand yes, I am very very much a lover of old Egypt, particularly pre-Akhenaten and the attempted reformations towards sun worship! I have a particular love of Thoth because he was the heart and tongue of Ra, so I consider one to simply be the extension of the other and thus treat them as a singular entity - Thoth-Ra. Djehuty is another name for Thoth, specifically the names he would take when assuming a more human form, such as A'ah-Djehuty.

Welcome to the pack, Djehuty! Very Happy Enjoy and have fun.
Hopefully you'll soon find a holt or a roleplay where you can discover ElfQuest your way. Good luck!

Your Libram turned out great. Elfquesty enough to get the connection at first sight. Unique features and obviously from a an undiscovered tribe. Tho ... couzld be a Goatrider. ^^
Thank you for sharing. Very Happy I hope to see more of your artwork.

The sleeves belonged to Capricornicus - he took them before being stricken physical so his heart could have something to cling to. He's a part of no tribe and is entirely a fish out of water, absolutely new to the world and utterly childlike in his understanding of its nuances, which should make for some very powerful moments of caracter development through both joy and sorrow! It's going to be difficult for him because he has only just gained emotion and thus has very little self control, which is why his Balance was thrown so far off-kilter that he made a terrible mistake and wound up being cast out.

Ooooha another rogue elf! Welcome to the forum, Djehuty-Libram!  Very Happy
If you like to enter the Elfquest world by " try and error ", your elf can stumble in the meeting of our OCs Vaeri -elf, Embala -elf and Yeee -elf in our " Sea Raider- near roleplaying game " which is more a free associative thing. Vaeri and a Sea Raider met first, then she introduced Embala to the Mer-elves.
At the moment we are celebrating our  (Yeee`s Sea Raider tribe -pod) first big meeting with Embala, which led to a recognition and now to a grand feast. Why shouldn `t another newcomer join in the festivities? So be cordially invited to our fun. What a Face
But I would advise you to at least read the first ElfQuest story, e.g. to be able to do something with the concept of recognition. In addition, from volume 3 onwards, this series has to offer elves, which tend to be of ancient Egyptian design like "Sun Toucher" Suntoucher  and of course " Rayek" Rayek .  The latter is an eye catcher for fans of the ancient Egyptian and was the reason why I liked this series so much. I really think you might like him too.  Very Happy

You wrote: " He's a part of no tribe and is entirely a fish out of water, absolutely new to the world and utterly childlike in his understanding of its nuances"

I would like to know what "new to the world" means? He seems to be an adult elf, so he must be grown up somewhere and there he was socialised.

And if you would like to draw some elves, I look forward to it, for I draw too.  Cute elf, that Libram.
The " Grab bag"-thread is an interesting idea-pool. There one can post drawings and writings to special topics-if you like to join in.

Ahhh i love Ancient Egyptian...guess that's why i picked a sun folk oc! Ooihh now i hunger to see Egyptian Vaeri...please i'm begging, someone draw her!! Lol

Honestly Libram and his description made me think of Embala. Want to hear more about him! That would be cool if he joined in the Sea Raiders setting.

Oh goodness!  I'll have to read to catch up then, then finish work on jiggering up a profile for Libram!  I'm not so sure playing him right this moment will be a good idea since I only have a very basic background treatment for the character and haven't settled entirely on his finer personality traits - he's somewhat of a blank slate, but only in terms of emotional development.

I'm reading the Wiki and these pages here to get a basic grasp of the lore of the world so I knew what I could get away with at character creation and what I couldn't, as well as to better understand things as they crop up.  Very little of this information has been given much context, which is mostly what I'm looking for - a much more proactive experience as opposed to a passive one.~  I've always been a role player.

Kind of a character spoiler, but he is not native to the World of Two Moons, and his body acts as a vessel through which he can experience everything to try and regain balance.  I can tell you more, but I'd rather that be over PM.

Thank you very much!  My boys tend to be veeerry feminine and I was pleasantly surprise dto see many similarities between my own and Wendy's art style - at least in terms of a certain design ethic for our guys.  I'll probably be drawing more Elves and othersuch things, so don't you worry about that!

Neat!  I don't know who that is but I'll go ahead and look them up.  I'll also have to read all of the backlogs for the RP to get caught up, not to mention throw a profile together for muh' boi here.  Oh!  Libram's finished, by the way!

Sometimes roleplay can be a great way to flesh out characters. Puts them in scenarios you never thought of!

Embala the elf belongs to Embala the user here! Her character isn't native to Abode either but didn't stop her from recognizing a blunt sea elf! *cackles* but any more than that, Embala would have to tell you herself. Perhaps she'll be able to sense his...non-nativity? Can he send?

I used to do a lot of gift art, but lately I've been making myself not. I'm sorry! :< Still though - Libram is more than capable of doing anything your most basic Elf can, though sending is included in this for one particular reason; if not for sending, Libram would not have been able to touch upon the ambient emotions of the Elves in the first place, and therefor would not have been able to achieve an Elven form upon his arrival. It was entirely subconscious, mind, but still! It very much ties into the character; he feels emotions strongly, moreso than an adult Elf - or even some children - might feel them due to how very new they are to him as an experience. Any Elf who looks at him will be able to paint him as being something of an outsider, particularly by the way he appears. His eyes sparkle, and when feeling strongly, they and his tattoos glow! Honestly, I imagine any Elf with a lick of empathy would be able to tell he's from 'out of town.' Maybe not necessarily an alien, but definitely not a local. That may be fine for the first few encounters, but I imagine literally everyone he meets painting him as a stranger would start to raise eyebrows among any friends / companions he may have at the time.

Hey no worries! Plenty of other people here who could draw for me..and push comes to shove, i could always draw something myself. I just try not to ask for too much though cause i am a greedy geedy monkey lol! I would totally ask for sooo much art but i want to be considerate to my friends.

Well he'll probably be as confused as hell when he meets Vaeri! Cause she can't send a lick. None of the Sun Folk can.

Glowing eyes and tattoos sound awesome.^^

Don't worry, this is not a real role-playing game but a very slow "getting to know each other" between my elf and the two elves from Vaeri and Embala. From time to time I draw something or write something. Sometimes the other two respond, etc. I haven't worked out all of my different OCs yet too. Embala has sorted out all possible entries from my sketchbook thread that belonged to this quasi-role-playing game and opened a new Sea Raiders thread in the role playing section " Your Journey Begins... The Abode " , but truly, this is far far away from being a role playing game. It is more a free associating thingie. Razz Very Happy
And btw we have also a section for Harpy-elves , which are not appearing in the Elfquest universe. But they are so awesome , they might also be something for your OC to appear there. It is the thread :" Building a Harpy Elf Tribe " in the category " ElfQuest FanArt and FanFiction ".

Just as Vaeri says: "Oh oh oh he IS like Embala!! " YES! He IS. You do not need to spoiler everything to me, if you like to keep a secret of your OC. But I suspect he is somehow an ancient egypt deity by the name Djehuty Thoth-Ra??? grin What a Face Am I right?

@Vaeri: Don`t throw your *puppy eyes*-glance in my direction, I hate curs! Razz But I give you a good advice: Turn the glance into a catlike one, then I might give in. Laughing

Yeee is right about all the stuff above. it's all very loosey goosey.*wave motion arms* i think Yeee is trying to convince you to consider what your Libram might look like as a harpy-elf...XD then she'll probably suck you into bein a mer-elf. not that i'll stop her, i'll probably help :p

Welcome.

I know others suggested reading ElfQuest online, which can be done, legally, and for free on the official site.

I'd strongly at the very least, recommend the original 20 issue series.

Not only to get a feel for ElfQuest, but also because it was some of the greatest comic book story telling.
