I have a channel where I play Sierra games (King's Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Gabriel Knight, and other Sierra games; and some closely related Sierra games like Blue Force and Legend of Kyrandia).
If you want to subscribe - come swing by and click Subscribe and tickle the notification button and all that fun stuff - https://www.youtube.com/@LetsPlaySierraGames
My latest is Gabriel Knight 3, which is an incredible game. Part 1 of 3...

The Gabriel Knight series?
Or, Sierra games (or Sierra-like games)? I love talking this stuff.
Can you tell I had a day off and got a lot of fun stuff done? Part 3 of 3 of Gabriel Knight 3 play through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UwjLVEJzzs&ab_channel=LetsPlaySierraGames

Hadn't heard of the Gabriel series. Let's see, there was Hero Quest (I used to play that all the time), King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, sometimes LL, all the Ultima games (FAVES to this day, mostly the newer games though)... Empire Earth I think I only played once or twice.
Now I need to find a way to get them to run on my computer... I got all the Ultima games from GOG, I'll look into the others.
If you like this, plus Piers Anthony, there's a game called Companions of Xanth. I play that at least once a year since it's a short game for the most part. https://playclassic.games/games/adventure-dos-games-online/play-companions-of-xanth-online/
Edit: Wasn't there a wizard's quest too?!? That may have been part of Hero Quest... I remember having to type in spells perfectly.

Hahahah! OMG! AMAZING!
I am obsessed with the Sierra games! Like.... way obsessed. Obviously, with the channel name, right? I have been forever...
Most of those Sierra games (King's Quest, Police Quest, Space Quest, Gabriel Knight, Leisure Suit Larry, etc) - are all on GoG as well.
I will definitely check out Companions of Xanth!
And the Wizard Quest you're thinking of - is actually King's Quest III. Where you're the boy trying to (in order to escape) turn the Wizard into a cat. And if you type the spell wrong - it has a drastic (game ending) effect on all the six or seven spells you need to learn.

Yes! Exactly, one letter or space wrong and BOOM, time to restart.
Is that the one that had the shoots and ladders type thing where you are against the wizard?
Now I want to play some Ultima Black Gate, maybe the one before that...

Is it Serpent Isle that's before Black Gate? I can't remember.
For King's Quest III... No chutes and ladders. You're just a slave boy to this evil wizard who barks commands at you. And while you're in his house you gather spell components every time he says, "I will be back." But you have to hide it under the bed, because if he comes back and sees you with any form of spell component - game over.
This is where you do the spells.... if it looks familiar?

Serpent's Isle is the second half of Ultima 7, first part is Black Gate. On both of them that I play now for some reason I get a long way in the game and when I fight it crashes... very annoying May try U6 again on my phone.
The spell area definitely looks right
The part I'm remembering is I think going up ladders and over hills while trying not to be caught by the bad guy, looked kinda like shoots and ladders, but with hills and they'd slide down and catch you. Been so long I can't remember. I really need to play again!
LOL Just remembered sitting in the graveyard trying not to get killed by ghosts to get a plant I think it was...

Doesn't look quite right, had trees on either side and was on the side of the castle... knowing me it's probably KQ3 again. I really need to get back to downloading those games.
Found it! https://questforglory.fandom.com/wiki/Graveyard I remember having to deal with Baby Yaga.
And a video, this is it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnzE40C4-OM&ab_channel=SierraChest
I can't tell you how many times I fell down that hole.
aaaaaand....
The shoots and ladders!!!
So it was Quest for Glory
If I'm remembering right the game was originally King's Quest, but someone sued them and they had to change the game's name to Quest for Glory.

Holy crud. I have the VGA remake of Quest for Glory... and I've not played that in SO long... I totally forgot that scene. It's not in the original Quest for Glory.
So what it was - Quest for Glory was originally named "Hero's Quest" - however, there was an old board game by the same name - and they sued - so Sierra had to change Hero's Quest to Quest for Glory. As such the Hero's Quest release is pretty rare (I own it, because I am old and bought Sierra games like they were crack in my youth)
