| Had some small ideas that don't fit into a larger story and decided to make a thread for them.
This first very short moment is partly inspired by an old grab-bag, but I forgot which one and it's been long enough since I looked at the actual items in the bag that I don't know what they were anymore.
Also, I don't think it's stated anywhere that One-eye is the father of Clearbrook's long dead daughter, if it is then this can be considered an AU.
When Eyes meet Eye
Clearbrook felt as though she had gained nothing from recognition. There had been pleasure in the moment and a cub to follow, but not the life mating she craved. Then she lost her daughter, little Mist, after only a few full turns. She had come to terms with these things as best she could. She lived in the now of wolf thought and this eased much of her pain. She had never truly expected a life mating with Bearclaw, he treed with Joyleaf and only joined with others rarely and with no commitment. But now, in this moment she feared that she would never have the lifemating, the deep sharing of souls that she craved, with the one that she loved. Soul meets soul when eyes meet eyes. Though Clearbrook had never heard these words spoken aloud she understood and thought of recognition in this way. So, how then, could she recognize her lovemate Woodhue? Clearbrook did not voice these thoughts. She did not even offer them to anyone in sending, but a deep fear had seated itself inside her as she listened to rain speak to her beloved. “I cannot restore what the humans took.” She laid her thoughts to rest and held her lovemate close, “Sleep now beloved.”

| Dewshine's Flowing Wish
A warm breeze lightly disturbed the beads at the entrance of the healer’s hut. The clinking sounds of glass and stone working its magic on the infants Ember and Suntop as they fell into a restful sleep. Leetah gazed at her children for a moment and then went into the main chamber of her hut, where she began organizing her bottled salves and bundles of dried plants.
She enjoyed the moment of quiet, but before long, she was interrupted by a rustling sound at the huts entrance. Leetah turned to see Dewshine standing just outside the entrance, the light of the sun shone down on her, creating a warm halo around her pale golden hair. Leetah smiled and Dewshine smiled back, but there was an air of unease, almost embarrassment about the young elven lass.
“Dewshine, come in,” Leetah Beckoned, “What brings you here?” Dewshine paused before entering the cool clay hut. Her lithe form appeared so delicate and Leetah still remembered having her fragile broken frame under her healers hands. “Are you hurt?”
Dewshine shook her head and then ran one of her hands through her short hair. “I… I’ve been thinking about something” Dewshine spoke quiet but clear. Her darted about the hut, before finally meeting Leetah’s eyes with a small smile. “I have always wondered what it would be like to have long hair. Like yours or Moonshade’s or Clearbrook’s even. But, mine doesn’t… it won’t grow any longer. It’s always stopped at this length.”
Leetah’s green eyes softened, “And you want me to make it grow?”
Dewshine shrugged and smiled sheepishly, “It’s never really bothered me too much, Plenty of other Wolfrider’s like me and father have shorter hair. I’m just curious, to know what it would feel like to have it braided, swept up or… flowing out behind me. I know it’s silly.”
Leetah chuckled, her laughter filled with warmth. “It’s not silly at all. Many of us have desires and dreams we carry with us, that are small. And this is something I can help you with.”
Dewshine’s eyes sparked, “Really? You could?”
Leetah nodded, “I can make it grow. I don’t think it will grow longer without my touch, even after I do this, but you can have the hair you’ve always wondered about. Now sit.”
Dewshine settled herself cross legged onto the cushions Leetah set out for her guests as the healer’s soft hands hovered about her head. The pulse of warm soothing magic emanated from the hands and into the air. Soon a soft tingle started at Dewshine’s scalp and then seemed to flow down and out about her head.
After a few moments, Leetah drew back and Dewshine felt the healers spirit recede. In it’s place was a new sensation. Soft, warm, locks of hair flowed down around the young female elf, cascading down her back in beautiful golden waves. Dewshine laughed in delight and lifted the ends up to her face as if to confirm it was real.
“It’s so light and full.” Dewshine looked up to meet Leetah’s smiling face, “Oh Leetah, it’s beautiful!” Dewshine stood and twirled, the long curly hair spreading out and rippling like a sun touched stream all about her. ___________________________________________________ | |
