Jink Speculations

(Disclaimer: I only read some pages of Jink and Future Quest today (but who has read them anyway?), so my knowledge mainly rests on the Wolfrider's Guide, forum chats and those pages.)

I don't really care for her, but I'd like to know how she ends up being alone on Abode (since it's connected to the fates of the elves I care more about).

So, today I was struck by a new idea who she might be:

New theory: she's Winnowill reborn. Winnowill is 'cleansed' (her mind wiped clean of her memories), but she is not allowed to return to the palace. So what about her soul? Well, Timmain is going be her mother and give birth to her. Skywise is or is not going to be Neo-Winnies biological father (maybe Timmain is going for Guppy-style self-impregnation), but he wants to stay with Timmain to raise the child.

The rest is the same as my prior guessing, Timmain and Skywise die and Cutter takes over the parenting duties. He suffers from the loss of his loved ones*, which is why she removes his wolfblood? Makes no sense? Moonshades reason to remove her wolfblood doesn't make sense, either. Most elves leave the planet, but Jink is not allowed to go with them, since she might get her Winnie-memories back and become evil again.

*maybe Leetah is going to bite the dust, too? We don't see her with him in Future Quest

So what do we know about Jink?

She took something away from her father, because she thinks "it" was hurting him, but he blames her (it was the best part of me). When he tells this to her, we only see "his" skull. During this scene, she is chased by a wolf, which is frightening her. Next scene, she's in foetal position, saying "Mother".

Jink has powers we never heard of before

She uses Wolfrider-phrases, however she is tall.

Shaggy white hair, loves shagging humans (a lot, that's so dumb, most man are not that easily aroused)

For whatever reason, she is not allowed to return to the palace. The master of the palace, who we only see from behind, but looks suspiciously like Cutter and who is addressed as "My Chief" by someone, who looks like Strongbow, is returning to Abode for his daughter, next panel we see Jink

Special connection with Aurek

She's a shapeshifter. She makes herself tall. Her actual size is shorter. I think she can also heal.
So her powers are self shaping, healing, mindwiping and jiinking. I could see shaping, healing and mindwiping being part of the same power-- but junking is weird! Who can do that?

She also claims she was born and raised in the Palace while it was in space.

But Ember told Lehrigren elves don't reincarnate. Or are you thinking that kind of thing just hasn't happened yet, Miss Gillespie?

Does she? When she finds the Little Palace, she calls it home but also says she doesn't know what it is

I wouldn't call it reincarnation, it's more like forcing a soul into a "flesh-suit". And didn't Wendy say she would brake a rule in every issue?


Jink must have done something so horrible, even the all-forgiving and loving elves can't accept her presence in their home. We know she's not an evil person, and I can't see any elven (foster-) dad abandon his daughter for mind-sweeping

Something so terrible she mindwiped her own knowledge of it, maybe. Which is why she would call the Little Palace home, but not remember what home was.

I don't know much about Jink, but I like the idea of her being Winnowill and I also like Skywise and Leetah being dead.

Jink has never seemed real to me, so I don't even know what to think. I've only skimmed through the Jink stuff, so I am not much of an authority... I thought her parents would definitely be Skywise / Timmain if just for looks alone. But her powers remind me of Winnie.
However, if she really was born in the palace, who knows what gifts emerge. It's been shown that the elves are pretty much latents in terms of magic and the palace brings out abilities. This is another one of those things which would be worth exploring in FQ...like we know the proximity of even the little palace brought about Ahdri's (sp?) rock shaping....and it seems to heighten magic in general. But the idea of it bringing out more magic would be kind of cool. What gifts emerge in elves from living in the palace? Like seeing Moonshade and the sun villagers being latents that come into their own powers.
it would make sense with Jink being born there (if she really was) that her powers would be crazy strong. Maybe she is the first born in the palace and it's like out-of-control, raw power. Maybe they hadn't anticipated such a thing happening and when she's about to be born they take the palace out to the stars and some kind of cosmic shitstorm happens as she's being delivered (and all the elves are pissed that ShenShen isn't around HA!).

That makes sense-- that she was born in the Palace and had unexpected magic because of it.

I'm almost 100% certain it says somewhere that she was born in the Palace-- I think when it was traveling.

She did something that had unintended consequences-- and it made her feel so guilty she mindwiped herself to forget it. It involved her dad somehow. I suspect she exiled herself out of guilt-- not that the others kicked her out. Maybe her father forgot who she was- and when she left, didn't protest?

Maybe Timmain died giving birth to her and Skywise goes through the abandonment issues aaaallll over again, and she's some crazy out-of-control healer type that just went to heal the pain without knowing consequences. And she was a baby or something as she did it. I'm reminded of Venka and how she automatically blocked Winnie even as a baby, breaking that spell Winnie had over Tyldak and Auroree. Maybe Jink's power worked like that and she had no control over it.
But that's still speculating that Skywise is her dad at all. I'm just assuming because white hair + Timmain/Skywise pairing. Is that reason enough?

I bet Timmain dies somehow

Ill come back and add links to discussions on the old SoC (used to have quite lively discussions about this there), but I just wanted to pose a twisted thought for a moment.

Rayak's powers weren't completely defined at the time he took on Winnie. He had some energy shaping ability (as witnessed by the gobacks), telekinesis, and the ability to control spirits. Winnie was shown to retain her flesh shaping abilities (Rogues Curse), and has vast (and apparently was continuing to grow in) mental or mind-shaping ability...

So, the twisted thought is that Winnie overcomes (or has overcome) Rayak, absorbs him or otherwise melds with him, shape-changes his/her body into a female with white hair, drama ensues, plotish type stuff, and the duo become Jink... this would, in effect, create a being that:
-is the perfectly abandonable abomination
-is a "daughter" that could effectively have mindwiped her "father"
-has many of the abilities seen as Jink has (assuming 'jinking' is a telepower over matter/energy, which Rayak could do with some development perhaps)
-would have ties to Egg and Blue Mountain
-keeps Winnie's spirit out of the Palace

It would be one of those "only happens once" things W/R pini once said was a rule for the story (things either happen once or always, or something like that).

Thats easily explained. She likes twisting things... warped her own son into 10000+ years of suffering. It could even be said that her psychosis is a result of her twisting herself, so... backed into a psychological corner, she turns on herself and makes herself think in terms of the ones who bested her again and again: Cutter and his family. Shoot, both of them (winnie/rayak have been stung time and time again by Cutter and company, and the proposed melding of spirits would be devistating on the individuals involved, Id think. Cutter is a common thorn in their side that beats them even with the deck stacked against him... wouldnt they be forced to see at some point that there is some strength in him that they are lacking?

Jink is the daughter of Skywise and Timmain
Plot twist: it's Timmain who dies then her soul merges with Cutter. Jink erases his Wolf blood the part most valuable to him The end

BTW, Jink was absolutely raised in the space-travelling Palace. It's how she stopped the Never-ending. She told them about all the ruins of their sister-ships she found as a child. Sorry, I really don't see any way for her to be some mind-wiped amalgamation of Rayek and Winnowill; also, if she were, then why would the Palace Master be calling her his daughter? And she's not abandoned - he seems quite intent on finding her again.

I think Jink is going to mindwipe Skywise after Timmain dies-- and he forget how to power the Palace because she taught him. And I bet he also forgets his daughter -- so Cutter is left being her only dad
