| I gave up on the Frank Herbert book and I am now reading "Open Prison" by James White, about humans who have to escape an alien prison. ___________________________________________________ | |

| Howl's moving castle. I just watched the Ghibli film last week and loved it, so now I'm reading the book. I could say I read the book, but it was a watt pad copy paste job and now I've ordered the actual thing from the library. I haven't read something this magical in a while. ___________________________________________________ | |

| I have been in a mood for Celtic lore so I'm reading the Mabinogion. Some of these myths are very good. There is a special kind of magic in the Celtic tales, I think. ___________________________________________________ | |

| I’m reading Shadow Scale by Rachel Hartman. I like the book, but I feel like Tess of the Road (third in the universe but by the POV of the sister) is much better than both Seraphina and this book. ___________________________________________________ Thanks to Embala for the lovely banner! | Just finished reading The Anthologies 1 and...Night Hunt is weirdly sweet? It's one of the weirder stories I've read, but also one of the better ones.
And it manages to me like Strongbow?
It has a sweet-ish and almost hopeful ending, a nice break from eq's almost typical relentless misery fest.
Somehow Night Hunt actually shows why I like the Anthologies. When they're done well I can believe Bearclaw is actually enough of a person to understand that taking human children and feeding them wolves might just be a really horrific thing to do.
Even makes me see sparks of...good in Strongbow. A character who is just unrelentingly unenjoyable for me in the comics.
One thing tho? 'Hey honey did you steal another human child and fed it to the wolves? =D' Joyleaf what the fuck. It's not even complaint, it just had me in hysterics for a good ten minutes. ___________________________________________________ 'We're all broken, in different ways, in varying degrees.'

| That sounds very disturbing. I understand not all characters can be perfect little mary sue's, but Bearclaw sounds like a psychopath. Little wonder the humans were afraid of the elves. I've read some urban fantasy. I'm back to sci fi now, mostly because I have run out of urban fantasy. I might go hunting for more urban fantasy, though. I enjoy the genre. As long as it has no vampires. I have something against vampires. I don't know why. Anyway, I'm reading "the Lovers" now, from Philip Jose Farmer. He writes slow going stories that usually go nowhere, but he has some interesting ideas. ___________________________________________________ | |

I mean, in canon he went and snatched the children from their mothers and hung 'em from trees. (And, from what I'm told, did much worse in another book I don't have) The humans hate and fear are completely valid when it comes to him. I'm currently reading 'Efter Drabet'. ___________________________________________________ 'We're all broken, in different ways, in varying degrees.'

| @Davrille - Isn't Mercedes Lackey the one who wrote or did something with the Wild Hunt EQ issue ? I'm pretty sure it is, but pls correct me if I am wrong. It's one of my favorite issues so I am really curious how her writing is outside EQ. ___________________________________________________ Thank you for the beautiful banner, Embala | |

| I have a friend who likes Mercedes Lackey's books. I've never gotten around to reading them. I am going to read one of my daughters young adult novels. My brain feels like it turned into mush, and I really want to read something easy. The book is titled "Dreamer" and the writer is Melaina Faranda. It is a part of a series. I read the first one a while ago, and I liked it because it took place in Glastonbury and I went on vacation there, once. I think this one takes place somewhere in Australia. ___________________________________________________ | |

Yes, that's her. She also wrote the lyrics to some of the Wolfrider's Reflections songs. ___________________________________________________ | |
