I was reminded of a small thread on the old SoC about the "animal types" of EQ Elves. As I know that all the old participants are on FatherTreeHolt too I'll simply quote and repost.

Not sure if this is a topic in another thread...
Some of the elves have had their animal types described. From the Gatherum:
Any thoughts on what "animal types" other characters would be? So far I've thought:
Dewshine - deer Bearclaw - badger (that one was easy, since he's called "Old Badger" by Joyleaf!)
Made by https://subeta.net/wardrobe.php#/share
Couldn't resist to bring in some color - hope you don't mind.
Good catch for Bearclaw XD Dewshine - a songbird would work for her, too.
An "old bird" for Voll! He always reminds me of a vulture (without the negative image). A friend of mine had a better suggestion: Voll - condor Savah - barn owl I wonder who "the wolf" would be - Strongbow?

Embala, those are amazing! Did you just do them?
A songbird for Dewshine would definitely work! As for a wolf, I was thinking Nightfall would be a good fit, too. I like your suggestions for Voll and Savah.
Winnowill - serpent, or a black widow spider.
Thank you, ceruleanblue - glad you like them. I did the animal types as a Halloween contribution on the Elfquest Dollz thread. They are made by a dollmaker, https://subeta.net/wardrobe.php#/share , with more or less heavy edits to get the right hair and clothing.
Looks like we were thinking about the same topic recently.
Spider and Black Snake - almost self-evident choices for Winnowill. You are aware that there is actually a picture of "SpiderWinn"?
Ekuar - turtle ... this was my first thought when it comes to him. When I discussed this thopic with Stormcatcher some weeks ago [in 2011!] she had a very different opinion about him. Hope she will share her thought here when she is in "active mode" again.
Treestump - bear ... big and heavy, following his own business and being rather harmless in general. But a fierce and deadly fighter when he got threatened or fears his loved ones endangered.
Venka - deer ... might be her brown skin and the big, calm eyes ...
Sunstream - Butterfly: a tranformer and symbol of metamorphosis (the symbolism of him being cocooned and re-emerging transformed both physically and spiritually can't be missed).
Also; could Strongbow be an elk? The elk is an animal of nobility, power, freedom, and great strength and agility.
Timmain - swan
The Sparrow and the Falcon - was this coincidence?
Can't think for anything fitting for Redlance tonight.
An otter is a fun-making creature for sure - but too sleek and elegant for Pike in my eyes. A chipmunk - perfect features.
I like the butterfly symbolic for Sunstream. *is picturing the wing-like fins now*
Hard to imagine Strongbow as an elk for me - or to see these attributes in an elk. Might have to do with approaching Christmas time and the special picture of an elk coming with it ... XD
power, freedom, and great strength and agility - sounds like Kahvi for me. And nobility ... her connection to the Chief's line.

I was thinking of a cougar for Kahvi. Fierce, leaping into the attack, uncageable (though she was 'caged' by tyldak). That points to another of her 'catty' attributes: chacing her 'bird'!
As for Tyldak, Ive always joked in my stories about him being part teridactil, naming him Teridak.
Timmorn hits me as a tasmainian devil. Probibly because his furry profile matches that of the loonie toons character.
Seems like I remember pike being discribed as a chipmunk somewhere, perhaps in the story. Iget an image of him reacting to something, perhaps the comment.
Tyldak ... the obvious - a bat, though he's definitely not a nocturnal creature ... or a Pterosaurus, of course (Pteranodon or Pterodaktylus)
ceruleanblue wrote:
Yep, it's been confirmed by Wendy and Richard that Tyldak's name was created by rearranging a couple of syllables in the word 'pterodactyl' (Tyl and dac, substituting a k for the c in dac).
I'm thinking Strongbow might be better represented by a bird of prey; silent, powerful and direct.
How about Moonshade? For some reason, a moth that would be active at night seems to be a good fit for her.
Strongbow - silent, powerful, direct ... never sitting, being like an arrow - a bird of prey sounds good. I like Moonshade moth
@Hammer: Cougar Kahvi leaping in the attack and chasing her bird ... *grin*

"btw: I know what @Yeee would suggest for Haken! XD"
Do you? what would I suggest?!? Well this is difficult, first I would have suggested Merman. But that is no animal. How about a black harpy? BIIIG grown and fierce , second guess.
But then I got it (because of the harpy picture), what you meant Embala: its the cutie Peacock, yes of course. But Haken is not just graceful and beautiful but also very dangerous. He could also be a wild stallion. Those animals are better not to be underestimated.

Ah I see their special powers are: quickly breeding and multiplying shitting in pools and making children sick with their droppings clubbing dogs (thats ok for me)
There is a link at your link, it says: Peafowl can be aggressive birds, and peacocks (male peafowl, known for their patterned tail feathers) even more so. Peafowl have sharp beaks and talons on their feet Their ability to fly and their tendency to take food as they desire it has led to numerous peacock attack reports at zoos and in urban or suburban areas where wild peacocks congregate.
But also this: It should be noted, however, that peacock attacks are uncommon. Ok, Haken Peafowl clubs wolves , shits in pools and makes elves sick.

How do peafowl handle clubs?
Let me guess...
Same as they handle spades, hearts and diamonds?
I dont know why you want a handle on a diamond, but for clubs and spades, peafoul leather makes great, if short lived, handle wraps. The trick is to tan the hides without tearing them up too much while plucking...
But back to the other question, the thing that came to mind, to some degree, was that after watching BNA (loved it) Skywise seems like a passable Silver Wolf.
Raccoons are too good to pass up, but who would be a cool looking, sneaky, clever, dark, forest creature? Perhaps an elfin leader known for sneaking around and messing with humans, back a few hundred years in the wolfrider's past...?

I kept peafowl for 13 years.
Peacocks can be aggressive. Peahens can be raging psychos.
The meter reader didn't watch out for the peacock. He watched out for his two sisters.
I wouldn't call their claws talons... but that spur can pack a punch if you don't know they've got one. Not as much damage as a rooster can do, but still a lot.
That being said, my birds were snugglebugs to me. Hop up on my back and make themselves comfy if I knelt down in the pen. Kinda like big feathery cats.
Speaking of cats....
I've always assoicated Strongbow with the caracal. Between the coloration, the expressions of those cats, and the silent demeanor.
They also are incredibly good at taking birds out of the air.
Tehee, that's cute. And this was in the Gatherum? Which one? iirc. there might have been two and one big.[/quote]

@jaRf I'm seriously not sure ... it's long ago I've looked in last time. And half of my EQ stuff is not in my reach right now.
The Big Elfquest Gatherum was the only one I've known for years - "The Gatherum" for me. Thus I think this information was from the Big EQ Gatherum - I remember four pages with concept drawings of the main characters and text, explaining their "animal types" among other specifications.
It was just fun to turn them "into their furry selves" when I found this dollmaker.

EQ Gatherum probabaly was these two separate ones, before it became the big gatherum with the brownish and oval cover. (Coverscans of EQ Gatherum and EQ gatherum Vol. 2)

Bone Woman is definitely a toad!

Would be interesting to know where the source of those animal types can be found!
Of course some of them are acually mentioned in the comics ...

Well, Thief thought of Bone Woman as a croaking toad, Treestump's referred to Dewshine as a pretty bird, Cutter's called Pike squirrel cheeks and the Wolfriders all thought of Winnowill as a black snake. As for Olbar, he was described as muscular as the bull who's hide he wears and aurochs were the wild ancestors of cattle, plus Joyleaf commonly calls Bearclaw Old Badger. Most of it can be found in the comics themselves.

Spontanous thought: Suntoucher =
Yeah, he's a hut alright... In an AU, Leetah strangles him to death for making her dance in a scanty, wrought-gold outfit while Cutter springboards off the side of the ship, waving New Moon through hords of bad guys. Skywise rides on Timmain in wolf form (that has a pair of dice hanging like an earring from one ear) crying "Chew it, Timmie", while Strongbow howls wordlessly and fires off his crossbowcaster....
As to Sun Toucher, his headpiece reminds me of an Egyptian pharaohs' headpiece, which in turn reminds me of a king cobra. Cobras get a lot of hate due to being venomous and whatnot, but Ive always though king cobras were some of the coolest looking snakes ever. And they are associated with the desert... (Now thinking an AU where he either chsnges his staff into a cobra, or can conjure up a giant cobra to ride)
