did anyone else who's on facebook notice the comment Wendy made recently that wolfrider penises are different from immortal elves', and that she was going to leave it up to us to figure out how?
First of all: whaaaaaaat?! Why is this even a thing? So now we're discussing the weird genitalia of wolfrider elves in a fantasy comic book? It's just getting to be a little too much. Sometimes fandom (and the creators) can get a little creepily weird and obsessive. Take a break. Go outside. not really, but it's a funny thought. I completely misunderstood this comment on first read!

| Speaking of trolls, know what I'd have loved to see? Picknose's reaction on seeing the beautified Oddbit. I imagine a lot of "A-ba-Buuuuh!" was involved. Not so sure I would've wanted to see the "dance" though... ___________________________________________________ "When you do what you love best, you shine where you love."Come play the Who Am I game! | |

| I do think it's sort of heartwarming that this comic brought us all together to talk about how terrible and OOC it is. | |

| I think FQ is neither terrible nor OOC. Sure, the characters have changed, but considering the amount of time that has passed during the course of the story - when including the Special - it's kinda to be expected.

It's definitely one of the strengths of Final Quest I agree. In combination with this forum I think FQ is quite enjoyable. And I also would have liked to see Picknose's reaction to Oddbit. ___________________________________________________

Seconded. It's not nearly as strong a story as I would like, but it's not on the Forevergreen or Kahvi series level.

| Mediocrity has always been the devil to me: Well, it's not terrible, but it's not amazing either.
I liked the Kahvi series for the most part even though the artwork wasn't always good.

| I was so intrigued when they said Oddbit was going to play a part. I suppose it's in-character enough for the trolls, but I'm disappointed it was so minor. Maybe there'll be more? I can hope. | |

It didn't strike me as in character at all. Picknose's adoration of Oddbit is one of his defining characteristics and to throw that away for a joke? But alright. It's cool, I'm cool.

| Nothing quite compares to the horrors of Forever Green. It was, to me, an epic failure. That's why I think if you're going to fail, then fail big, fail in epic proportions, because here we are still talking about how awful Forever Green was. We will not be talking about Final Quest in a few years, I can tell you that. Mediocrity doesn't leave dents . ___________________________________________________ Thank you for the beautiful banner, Embala | |

| Regarding Forevergreen, I'm not sure I agree. I mean, it's unquestionable that the art was completely awful, but strictly as far as plot, characterization, pacing and generally making some iota of sense go, I think FQ has Forevergreen beat in the epic failure department. | |

| The art in Forevergreen was awful to start with and got worse, but Sun Girl is right, the writing wasn't half bad. | |

| I couldn't get past the artwork in Forever Green and have had to read the story in increments, and it was like allowing myself to digest it a little at a time because it was very difficult. Yes, the story was not as bad because there was more in-depth characterization in terms of how it dealt with another group of elves and I thought that was interesting. But the artwork was so off-putting for me, it truly, truly made it hard to read. I'm not sure I agree that FQ is on par with Forever Green in terms of epic failure. The artwork in FQ is very pretty, but it's lost a lot of 'heart', which makes it suffer the mediocrity disease. All the artwork discussion on here which was so eloquently talked about a few pages ago sort of goes with what I mean, The story itself, however, is a special breed of disaster in terms of how scattered it is. It doesn't focus on characterization either. The whole thing just feels very tepid and aggressively milquetoast. ___________________________________________________ Thank you for the beautiful banner, Embala | |

| Zadzi: - see, I knew it, we do (basically) agree!
I also think the art in FQ, especially compared to OQ and other examples of Wendy at her best, has lost a lot of (I would say just about all of) its heart, as well as a great deal of technique. That could be put down to the "Photoshop learning curve", but honestly she's been using it since Searcher and the Sword which was several years ago, and her layouts, facial expressions and anatomy have only gotten sloppier since then. Not to mention the ever more noticeable cut-and-pasting.
Obviously even Wendy on her worst day (this) beats the pants off Barry Blair on his best (um… those last B&W issues where he drew Door sort of cute were... less horrible?) No question there.
I also also think that the story is a scattered mess, just all over the place. I don't know what the main plotline is or who the main players are, I don't know why anyone is behaving the way they are, I don't know what's important because everything is paced and weighted so bizarrely, I don't know which of the previous series can be considered canon anymore. I haven't been impressed with one panel of artwork or found a single thing that's happened plausible since the first issue of Discovery. With every new "revelation" I facepalm so hard it leaves a mark. I exaggerate, but I mean. This is just bad, you guys.
If you enjoyed Forevergreen less, or not at all, I can't blame you. That was pretty bad too. But I think if Wendy had drawn it, we'd barely be shrugging at the occasional odd plot point. It certainly contains nothing to compare to the mindbending ghastliness of Timmain's latest god-the-mother and god-the-son bafflegab.
