I always thought it a shame that Eldolil was unaware of the Sun Folk, and therefore couldn't join them.

Do we know more than:

--Felt like 3000 years was long enough to live, so went off and starved himself to death (I'm assuming: He wouldn't eat any meat, and there wasn't any vegetation up on that mountain). (birthdate unknown?)

--did the spirit-guide thing with Oakroot

--was the last full blooded Elf among the Wolfriders.

I'm trying to put details into a project of mine and was wondering if there was anything 'special' about him, other than existing.

Basically that's all I know, Hammer. The Comic and the Wolfrider Guide do not provide more specific information. We would need a specialist for the BoTC prose novels (like @Startear or Vojira) to tell whether the novel offers more background story.

Eldolil hardly planned to starve himself, tho. The Wolfrider Guide says he "released his spirit from his body". I think he "went out" like Savah ... and then a bit more and never returned. An elegant version of suicide.

Hm... no notification even though I was mentioned? :/

So after a quick re-check, as the story was in the two books in my collection...

By the time he went off, he was known as old, angry and mostly silent. Oakroot (Tanner) is actually wondering why he is even looking for Eldolil.

We never really get a good glimpse at his full personality. A bit of amused scorn, described as silent and angry... not much to go on.

In the story Oakroot's thoughts is that the reason why Eldolil is so angry at that point was mixed between dependence, and lingering resentful feelings after the conflict between pure-blooded elves and wolfriders ignited by Two-Spear. The story says that Two-Spear was willing to kill all pure-blooded elves, but I think that is just one of the inconsistencies that novels can have.

As for why he wanted to die, it is hinted that he is just tired. There is little need for pure-blooded elves at that point, there was no where else to live, and he just felt it was time for his soul to go back to the Palace.

Also, yeah, he wasn't really starving himself, he just didn't want to eat raw meat.

Yeah, I came across some other info about it being an aversion to meat being raw... but he could have cooked what Oakroot offered to hunt him, Id think.

Learning so much. Btw, what were the exact titles of the prose novels (so I can look for them)?

Thank you for the additions, Startear!

Look here for the requested titles, Hammer.

As a vegetarian Elf with no canine DNA, he was delicious.

Oh, that's right, he committed suicide. Suicide. That's our story, and we're sticking to it.

Eldolil: The Last of the Pure Elves Empty

I made a headcanon recipe for brain stew. I have to admit, I have never made anything with brains, so this has been adapted from another recipe, and what plants grow in Norway.

Eldolil’s summer brain stew

Sometimes, when the High Ones find rice in the forest, they will request a brain or two. This they use to make brain stew. It is never the same recipe, because it depends on what the High Ones can find of other ingredients in the forest. One thing that is always used is caraway seeds, which the High Ones dry and take with them. Sometimes, during the summer the root is used too. They all have different taste. Some Wolfriders are invited to eat it too, Cone is especially notorious. She ate it a lot when she was mourning her wolfriend, wherein she was stuck at the Wolfrider camp for a while. She discovered that cooked brains can soften hides, and will often supply brains to the High Ones, who thank her with stew. The one I have here is a favorite of Eldolil.

1-2 brains of deer
A handful of sour leaf (sorrel)
A handful of boar leaves (bear garlic)
Caraway seeds or root
Pink sweetflower (optional)

Rice

1. Begin by cooking the rice. Put the brains in cold water, letting it wait until the rice is almost done.

2. Peel the membrane away. By this time, the rice has finished cooking. Set it aside.

3. Put the brains in a cooking pot. Fill it with water, boar leaves, sour leaves and caraway root if using. Heat up until boiling. Boil for six minutes. Take out brains and greens.

4. Chop up brains and greens. Plate up rice. Put the brains and greens of top. Spoon a little of the cooking water, and caraway seeds, if the root wasn’t used. If you have pink sweetflowers, have that on too. Sweetflowers give a sweet contrast to the sour leaves and potent boar leaves.

Eldolil is known for liking strong bold flavors, and this brain stew is a little too much for most of the Wolfriders. Cone still eats it with gusto. The leftover cooking water from the stew will be saved for drinking the next day, especially if someone has gone a little hard on the dreamberries. On cold days, the cooking water is saved, and next day the High Ones eat it with more caraway seeds and more greens. During the winter, if Chieftess Skyfire allows it, leftover cooking water will be reheated the next day with dried meat, to make a rich soup.
