New EQ storyline in 2019?!

It looks like you are not familiar with our way to communicate and discuss. Father Tree Holt is an Elfquest related forum. We are used to discuss on topic in forum threads like this one. That's why I've opened this thread and repost your contributions here.

I'm so many "on the fence" in relation to this!

I'm not sure i want to discuss possible new EQ storylines...partly because if it's not gonna happen, what's the point? Fan speculation is one thing but didn't we have a thread on stories we'd like to see after FQ ended? I don't.want to get all excited or even a little hopeful then find out "nope, just a fan waving a red herring, sorry!"

Yet a part of me is afraid to hope because for me, it feels like FQ crushed something in me. It's like visiting a place you used to go to all the time with a loved one who has died. You still love the place and the cherished memories but it feels hollow.

Don't get me wrong, i still have my passions for EQ! And yes, i'd love to continue seeing EQ build...but now i'm a little afraid what it'll build into, and if it's building for only buildings sake.

Though seriously, Wendy has gotta give us some kinda tidbits for Cutlet! And did she EVER freakin explain how Korafay got her name??

This is happening much sooner than I thought it would. And a series? I'd've put money on a standalone a la The Searcher and the Sword.

Yeah, but it's on monthly/bimonthly deadline. Whereas a stand-alone book can be done (in theory) at Wendy's leisure.

Wendy's stories almost always circle around Cutter, he is, after all, her alter ego.

After the less than satisfying FiQu, I don't have high expectations for this new series . But I'm read it nevertheless and I'm happy this forum gets some new impetus

I've always (well, since FQ) felt like the reason for mindwipe is TimTam , so it wouldn't surprise me. Cutter coming to life, I don't know - perhaps? But I think it might be more along the lines of, say, Skywise walking into one of the Palace rooms and seeing Timmain shape into Cutter or something and then Skywise has an enormous WTF moment.
Timmain being weirdly absent from the story in the blurb but being on the cover does make me wonder what is going on between she and Skyboy.

The cover is beautiful. Thank you Stargazer! It surprises me that there will be a new story so soon. But I welcome it because everything is better than The Final Quest being "the end". Cutters death still hurts as well as the death of numerous other beloved characters...I would love to see Cutter come back to life again or have his spirit involved in the story as a guide. EIfquest without Tam wouldn't be Elfquest? Iam eager to know more about Cutlet...also so happy that Strongbow will play a role as seen in the cover!

It's funny that Skywise is said to be the hero now....its like Elfpop saying: " I don't want to be the sidekick anymore!"

Here’s my thing about EQ... Skywise found out Cutter was dead and leaped across the galaxy in half a minute. Why is he even going on a “hunt”? He can just go where whateveritisheneeds is and get it. Is it his daughter? Don’t they have a cell phone system for that named Sunstream? Just call her up and go pick her up. It can’t be that complicated anymore. Is it something else? Find it in the scroll, and just go get it.

Was his brain fried— as the stories of Jink and Futurequest suggest? Get someone else to do it.

I have no idea why “who goes and who stays” was such a big deal if anyone can come back in the blink of an eye. Why didn’t Skywise and Moonshade take off during the week and visit on weekends? Seems like that would have been really easy. No need for the melodrama.

As for the new characters- of course they were superficial. There was no time to flesh them out. All the characters are types— but some got more evolution than that. They needed their own stories to really evolve. But this wasn’t about them. I guess the side comic about Ember and the Wild Hunt has a lot more Pool in it— and would probably be a good read if you want to dive deeper there

I've always thought the Who Goes/ Who Stays storyline was deliberately played up to create conflict and an additional storyline, which wasn't even necessary. It read as contrived to me exactly because of those reasons Lunacat's talking about . It annoyed me because it took up space and really dragged out. Issues like Cutter's obvious desire to retire his chief's knot and not knowing what else to "do" would've been cool to explore (instead of just dying because I Have No Other Identity Besides Being Chief In Elfquest)...or spending more time building up Dart/Mender ... even showing what exactly goes on in the Palace and what they do... those things and many more would've been great to explore.
FQ always read as a lot of superfluous stuff eclipsing other things which could've been more explored. Some storylines got unnecessarily dragged out (Moonshade/Strongbow, human stuff with Angrif, even Sunstream's whole thing of trying to gather elves) and felt tedious.

By the sounds of the new description, it's possible Skywise was just mindwiped and has a memory problem or something. Or not. I hope it's not another contrived, faux conflict though, because I ca't stomach anymore of those.

But having a powerful time travelling machine ruins any drama. With a Palace travelling faster than lightspeed, time runs differently. There is no need for Skywise to arrive at the moment Cutter dies, he could arrive the moment he feels something went wrong.

Ugh, I always had issues with "reality science" keeping into EQ. Either have it there all the time or never.
That's why I prefer asoiaf. Martin thinks about the mechanics of "magic" (magic in his books could actually be nothing but forgotten advanced technology), in EQ magic has no rules and is made to fit the story.

For me, it’s not that there needs to be “reality science”— but just internal rules that are consistent and make sense. It doesn’t make sense for me that these characters are moving around and stalling on leaving for ages, only to have it manifest that they can be halfway across the universe in the blink of an eye whenever they feel like it. Why was leaving an issue then? Why all the tears and heartache and divorce over it even? They could have gone, then changed their minds or gone half a week and come back half a week — there was no limitation in this decision.

There doesn't even have to be one week between, the palace can choose to arrive at whichever time it's convenient. There are no corresponding timelines between the elves in the palace and the elves on whatever planet.
Skywise could have arrived exactly the moment he felt something was off with Cutter, not after Cutter went through the process of dying. There was no reason for the timespan between feeling becoming aware and arriving at the place (well, there was a reason, but it's called dramaturgy not logic).
