After SO many preview teasers they may think the NO preview is the best teaser. Wink

You see ... people already suppose that the content of FQ #10 is too dense to allow preview ... too exiting to give away anything by preview spoilers.

A thought, probably brought up many times before: it was stated somewhere that Recognition was 'created' to get the High Ones to be able to procreate again (since they stopped before they arrived)... but who created it or thought it up? Timmain seems to be at the root of all things "survival", so part of me wonders if it was her invention... and if so, wouldnt she know the mechanics of it well enough to manipulate it? Supposing that...

I don't know if the spoiler tags are necessary from here on out; I just wanted people to be able to find the link and go to it fresh, without their eyes catching on anything. The thread is probably "deep" enough now. Smile

Jarrah and Ingen look very different from HY #9. Jarrah's hair actually looks black and Ingen's face is much softer - I remember him and Rayek looking rather a lot a like. While it's nice, it's also a little not-nice. I wonder if Jarrah's choice of clothes means anything. It echos Rayek's "Master Of The Palace" outfit. Is she choosing it as a deliberate act to connect with her son? Or did Ahnshen base the infamous "buckle outfit" on Jarrah's style instead of the other way around?

(And if we go poking through the background of the old books, will we now be able to spot Jarrah and Ingen?)

I think I know what the "worse" is going to be. Mindcoil, anyone?

The lingering sinister energies Aurek held at bay? O.O ... oohhh - good thought, manga!

It's a pity that Jarrah's "silver" hair was just a light reflection. I understand that Ingen has softer features now. When we got to know him it was during a drought and he was fighting for survival - the way farmers do. He was exhausted and probably malnourished.
Imagine him in red and with a headband ... still different features but he looks a lot more like Rayek this way - like a younger, softer Rayek. Rayek has inherited quite a bit from his mother, I guess.

And I'm with Redhead about the High One topic. Why should we assume that only physical growth shows the change? Reyek would sense a spiritual growth in his parents for sure. And after decades of training they should have grown!

I feel that if there is more to it than Jarrah and Ingen's height (and I concede the possibility) then it's Wendy's job to show us more clearly.

I wonder, though, just what spirits Aurek has been guarding. The Gliders went with Rayek to the Palace ages ago.

Rayek doesn't mention their height. He just says "they show all the signs of becoming High Ones" and regrets that he ever looked down on them. Hmm... technically, you could argue that's all about height... but I just feel that interpretation is a bit too literal.

It also doesn't say that Aurek has been guarding spirits. It says he's been keeping energies at bay. When he walks/rises up into the Palace, there is a line that indicates he is making contact with his people for the first time since Blue Mountain fell.

It's neat how similar Venka looks to her grandmother, isn't it?

I like this point of character development for Rayek. I always felt there was something about his "relationship" with Winnowil that was almost a more twisted version of his relationship with Leetah. That the true test, as before, would come with having to let her go. How he reacts will determine the extent to which he has evolved.

But their height is the only sign apparent to the human, non-magic-sensing reader. Some mystic aura lines around them or a line from him about the magic he senses would make his meaning clearer. As it is, what we see is him looking up at people who are now taller than he is then comparing them to High Ones.

I don't exactly mind this development - as you said, Lunakat, it fits - but it's giving me the screaming heebie-jeebies because unless Wendy IS going to ret-forward-con "Rogue's Curse" out of existence (something Richard said is not going to happen) then instead of being the story of how Rayek has sacrificed and suffered for the good of others, it's just the story of how Rayek forces Winnowill to stay sick because he can't let go.

I was wrong; apparently there is worse than just leaving his thread unresolved.
