| Rain the Healer ... this was Rain's thread, opened by Kitt, on the original Scroll of Colors. Follow old discussions and see fanart from earlier times.
Visit Rain's bio page on Elfquest.com. ___________________________________________________ Indem du etwas tust, das dir oder jemand anderem gefällt, erschaffst du bereits einen Wert. | |

| Yes, my favorite! But so little is known of him. Where did his gift come from? Who are his forebears?
I find him interesting because he made the absolute most of his limited skill. Being a really powerful healer who can do whatever he/she wants like Leetah, Winnowill and Mender is less interesting.
I would love to see a story completely about him and his history, his status in the tribe, his offspring. It annoys me that he never became more than a goodlooking extra, mostly as the origin of Mender's powers.

| Just making sure all the sources that show Rain will be found easily: Original Quest #4Hidden Years #5Wolfrider!Kings of the Broken Wheel #5 (a flashback) ... and the Beloved Dead centerfold of course. Anything I've forgotten to list? ___________________________________________________ Indem du etwas tust, das dir oder jemand anderem gefällt, erschaffst du bereits einen Wert.

| Well, when Bearclaw was young , in BoTC #2, he discovered the Trolls. There appears an elf looking a lot like Rain there, but so do One-Eye and Strongbow, and that's not very likely. I think the artist simply picked a few Wolfriders at random. | |

| Redhead Ember reminded me that Cheipar was the grandson of Rain. I wonder if he might have inherited Rain's level of healing magic. If so, maybe it wasn't strong enough for Krim to sense it during pregnancy, nor for Cheipar to use it on himself as a newborn. ___________________________________________________ | |

| I'd say it's more likely he didn't. And that Sust haven't inherited the powers either. ___________________________________________________ "When you do what you love best, you shine where you love."Come play the Who Am I game! | |

| But Sust does have white hair-- which sort of bolsters the theory that Rain was related to Shale. | |

| But it could just as easily have come from his mother's side. I mean, Krim had platinum blonde hair, basically. | |

| Wasn't it talked about in Wildhunt that Sust was maybe more Skot and Krim's kid since the wolves didn't take to him at all? In Shards Krim and Skot were pounding the hell out of each other and then Skot died (terrible way to die - fire. I even remember him saying in 'Dreamtime' that fire wouldn't be his choice to die, but that's another tangent lol) ...later, in Wildhunt, Sust connects to tuft cat and even Scouter's like, Uhh, hey Pike? And Pike's like, No, he's OURS. So I feel Sust might just be all Go Back in blood..... Which I kind of love.
But in general, none of Rain's blood seems to have gotten through to anyone but Mender. ___________________________________________________ Thank you for the beautiful banner, Embala

| Yeah. I've always loved that scene! No one really cares who Sust's biological sire is; he's the son of Skot, Krim and Pike. (Same with Cheipar). Besides; Scouter of all people should know it doesn't matter whether or not you're biologically related to a child. However, I do think there might be one of Rain's descendants - other than Mender - who have inherited at least an aspect of his powers. There seem to be some connection between healing-powers and shapechanging-powers. ___________________________________________________ "When you do what you love best, you shine where you love."Come play the Who Am I game! | |

| That's right, I forgot about Kimo! Yes, his shapeshifting powers do seem connected to healing abilities. ___________________________________________________ Thank you for the beautiful banner, Embala | |

| Healer, Fleshshaper, Fleshshaper - we've seen the connection. Magical skills like to skip a generation ... Yurek - Alekah - Tekshu - Ahdri ... always the grandchild inherited rockshaping powers. Redlance was called the grandson of a rockshaper. And Rain's powers showed (more or less) in his grandson and great-grandson. I like to count in Rainsong as well, tho. Her fertility might be a facet of her healer heritage. Some unconcious self-induced Recognition trigger. ___________________________________________________ Indem du etwas tust, das dir oder jemand anderem gefällt, erschaffst du bereits einen Wert.

| Here's a sad thought; he potentially lost two lifemates in a relatively short amount of time. Imagine this, being the healer - the one whose main purpose is to keep everyone in your tribe alive and healthy - and yet being unable to save two people you love more than anything. ___________________________________________________ "When you do what you love best, you shine where you love."Come play the Who Am I game! | |

| Right-- because Rainsong was born of recognition and Pike outside of it.
That doesn't necessarily mean they had different mothers though, does it? Or was that the implication?

| Of course we don't know if they had different mothers, but there is the possibility and if they did the thought of Rain two times being unable to heal the person he loved is really sad. ___________________________________________________ "When you do what you love best, you shine where you love."Come play the Who Am I game! | |
