Debate: Teir or Mender?

well i had done this for my sailor moon fandom with Seiya vs Anime Mamoru...now i feel this is a good couple to do with Ember, and who would have made a better lifemate for her, Teir or Mender?

now remember, ignore the fact that Ember chose Teir. picture this as an alternate universe. otherwise anything goes.^^ traits, family, possible kids they have, all are good reasons for why Ember should pick one over the other!

so what's your opinion?

I liked her with Mender, and I like her with Teir. She chose Teir, fine with me, see no reason to want to change that.
If she'd chosen Mender, fine with that as well.
If she'd chosen both... well, I guess that's what I would really have preferred.

I'm for Teir - simply because I like him much better. Dark and mysterious above blondsurferboy for me any time.

Wait ... I like Teir! Maybe Ember should mess with Mender. XD

If Mender stays with Ember, then perhaps Dart would stay with Kimo... So I vote Mender!

I'd say Teir, but only after having read "Mender's Tale." Mender has serious ethical issues.

If I was reading the first volume of Final Quest and nothing else, I'd say Mender all the way! True his ethics are lacking,but he was doing a hell of a lot better against the Djunsmen than that neurotic,mommy-issue,whiny-ass mess that Teir was. Plus Teir was introduced as nothing more than a mysterious,GaryStu love interest for Ember,so I never got into his character. Personally Ember needs to get with both or someone new. At least Mender has an independent  personality,unlike Teir who's defining trait is Ember's boytoy.

Teir may have started off as poorly written, but after his parentage was revealed, it really is little wonder he got so messed up, at least in-story. However many kids Kahvi had, Venka's the only one who didn't get messed up by her or some other force. And Teir did admit he had to improve himself, so he's moving in the right direction. Someone with that kind of self-awareness is a good pick for a chief's lifemate.

Compare that to Mender's attitude toward Dart: "What will I do without you to keep me on the right path?" essentially. It's MENDER'S responsibility to keep himself on the right path, not anyone else's. There is decency in him, but it's gotten buried a little too far for him to be a chief's lifemate.

Nether really. I honestly don't like either of them as characters or pared up with Ember but if I have to chose one, I guess Mender since the whole "Wild Hunt" comic actually made me drop the series back in the day and Teir was one of the biggest reasons.

I've said this in another thread but I think it's pretty clear that they were trying to recreate the whole Cutter, Leetah, Rayek, rival drama because it worked so well once before. I think it's especially obvious thats what they were going for since, before all this happened, Mender really seemed like the easy going type who wouldn't have minded a three way lifemating.

Not entirely sure but I tend towards Teir being the better counterpart for her.

Mender's got a lot of temper for a healer. And currently he seems to be fine with Dart. Teir seems to be more on the calm side (relatively) and thus he might be a good counterpart for Ember. Just sad for him that she's too busy being the chief and leader all the time. FQ is a bit rough on previous characters, a lot of things are torn around and apart und heritages are created that make me dizzy or think "WTF / WaRP, why TF did you do this?"
Poor Teir.

They were trying to recreate the Cutter/Leetah/Rayek  and/or Scouter/Dewshine/Tyldak triangles and I didn't take to the Mender/Ember/Teir triangle for various reasons.  With Cutter/Leetah/Rayek, Leetah and Rayek had been long established lovemates when Leetah's Recognition to Cutter occurred during that raid. Likewise with Scouter/Dewshine/Tyldak where you had two childhood lovemates torn asunder by Dewshine's chaotic Recognition to Tyldak. Didn't see that at all with Mender/Ember/Teir. Mender has no problem sharing his affections,Ember didn't seem to mind being with Mender and/or Teir and Teir joined with Yun more than once. Neither one seemed inclined towards monogamy. Plus Ember really hadn't known Mender that much longer than Teir, so he really wasn't the Rayek/Scouter to Teir's,Cutter/Tyldak in the sense of being childhood lovers. Recognition wasn't involved either,just Ember's indecisiveness towards both Teir and Mender. Considering the whole mess that Mender/Ember/Teir was,I'd rather Ember be with Dart,Kimo or even Scouter. Hell,Skywise was a healthier choice.

It's not that unusual that a 16-year-old girl is a bit undecided about which hottie she likes best, is it?
But yeah, things did get a bit messy between the four of them, came across this nice scene in Wild Hunt (wouldn't know how to find it again) in which Dewshine had a bit of fun at their expence, which of course is even funnier now that we know that truth of Dewshine's and Teir's relation.

I really wish they had kept Ember more or less out of a serious relationship. A liberate to roll around with is fine sure, but I kind of wish they had kept her a little more like skywise was, without a lifemate. To be honest though, I guess I'd pick Teir, just because Mender got waaaay to possessive in Wild Hunt.

Also Meder was a bit too close to home, having the same career as her mom. It just seemed a little copycat.

Mender's always seemed kinda creepy to me. I like Teir much better.

Teir has the better looks, but that's about it.
I prefer Mender's character*, at least for a fictional character, he is way more interesting than Teir.

i rather think Ember tries to embody the old Wolfrider lifestyle, before all the quests. because of that, i kinda think Mender might have been the better lifemate in that respect. his personality might have been tempered if he'd had more responsibilities and of course Ember to really keep him in line. he has this feralness that ties in very well with Ember's wild spirit i think.

Teir is nice of course, but the whole mystic and quietly thoughtful thing..it just doesn't entirely seem to fit in with the Wolfrider style. plus i find it funny she has a sunny top brother and might have a sunny top lifemate as well. XD

Mender IS creepy. He enjoys killing. He ran that experiment on the human girl. He only chose Ember because of her parents-- and she knows it. And I think his sudden fixation on Dart isn't healthy either. His desire just seems greedy. Like, it's not about Dart himself at all-- just about having and experiencing the feelings and emotions Dart has experienced. The sweetest he was, I think, was with Yun-- when he healed her son for her. Mender is probably the closest thing to an elf sociopath that we've got. Not that he's evil or anything-- he doesn't seem evil. Just super self interested.

Teir is needy and clingy and co dependent-- but he's better looking and more sincere. I'm not sure if he's a better mate for a chief, because he's so time consuming.

I guess it's a matter of what you go for. Do you like the self centered play boy type or do you like codependency? We know now what floats Ember's boat. The nice thing about Teir is that he needs specifically her-- not her role as chief and not because of her dad. So that must be nice. Ember spent her life in the shadow of her famous parents-- now she has a man who, not only has never heard of them, but requires specifically and only her.

Good point about the codependency, Lunakat-- and having been there myself, I identify with Teir a bit, and I also think he can largely overcome it, as I have. He probably needs to spend a good long time with Leetah. But with Ember right now there's an imbalance, and ultimately neither he nor Mender is supporting Ember as she needs.

However, Teir is gentle, which is a good balance for Ember's fierceness. And he is, as you say Vaeri-- a "sunny top," (highly psychic, I'm thinking is what you mean, am I right?) which may be part of his attraction for Ember. Twins have a special bond, and she probably misses Sunstream and the yin-yang thing they had as children.

Yes- i think Tier is a better counterpoint to Ember. I do think he has more potential than we've seen so far. It would be great to see his character developed more. And fwiw, I kind of like it when Mender gets creepy.

^ Agree. It would be nice to see those potentially rich veins tapped, in both Teir's and Mender's cases.

As for either or both of them being suitable for Ember... guess I wasn't rooting for any one elf-lad. It's been interesting seeing how she deals with Recognition, and it is so refreshing to see an elf who doesn't go all glassy-eyed and burbly over the mere thought of babiesbabiesbabies. Teir turned out to be the other half of that occurrence; with his own fractured background, that adds a little texture to the situation. So, sure, why not him

Teir. Mender has some personality traits in common with Ember, and as has been said elsewhere, "Differences make good sparks."

^ in fact Teir is the (indirect) result of those sparkey differences.

Now, how come Ember and Yun never hit it up? Of course we don't know if that never happened, but I don't think there have been any hints.

I don't know... I always thought Mender was really hot and Teirs facial features always seemed a bit too feminine for my taste.

I thought so when he killed Lodok - loved his demonic look during that scene. For the first time Mender became really interesting for me.

Meanwhile I've buried those hopes. Since he hooked up with Dart he's more uninteresting than ever for me.

What I like: His friendship with Flam.

actually wordgazer, what i meant was physical appearance...XD both Mender and Sunsteam(previously Suntop, aka sunny sunny sun top) are golden blondes. could be a way to fufill the whole "i want to be with my brother but incest bad" twins sometimes have.

Teir is definitely not a sunny top.XD
