| Random fan type person - "can I join in?"
EQ overlord - "do you agree to agree with everything we say, even if its offensive to minorities and the disadvantaged?"
Random fan type person - "um, isn't that a little unfair?"
EQ overlord - "no. Do you agree to kiss ass and agree with everything we say, ever, until the end if all time?"
Random fan type person - "but what about my freedom of speech and the right to my own opinion?"
EQ overlord - "THERE IS NO SUCH THING IN THIS PLACE. ACCESS DENIED." *deletes all of everything*

| Some here finally see the true dark sides and limits of "elf-mom" and "elf-dad". Personally, even if I respect ed them... ...I had been quietly recording some disrespectful (to say the least) behaviours they've displayed toward us elf-fans for years... ...and it's no suprise at all, here. I cannot advise you all enough to fetch and gather here the maximum of interesting elements from the old SoC... ...before everything gets zapped, there. ___________________________________________________

| yeah. it is rather dissapointing...and odd, that some of the most creative people seem to be the most...childish in terms of personality. i remember an event concerning a pet project of a man named Kenkou Cross...granted he had the RIGHT to be upset, but he did rather freak out excessively, not to mention he was excessively angry at fans who called his universe a "grimdark" place, despite the fact the fans don't get complete information.*sigh*
anyway good point, i'll send em to the timmain account.

| Personally, I think Wendy and Richard Pini are just human. Of course they have feet of clay. We all do. I sometimes did dumb things when I was a moderator there, too.
I don't want to do the us-them thing. When it comes to loving Elfquest, it's all "us."
By all means let's talk about specific things that happened that made people here angry. Sure. But count me out of blanket condemnations.
That's all. | |

| RIP Scroll of Colors,
But to be honest... it was getting pretty uncomfortable lately. The last few weeks there I was downright afraid to click on a thread when I saw a post from Richard Pini, because I knew someone was getting chided for word choice or told "You can stop reading Elfquest if you don't like it!" It's so sad, when I think back to the time I got an email from him way back in like... 2003 and I was so excited that "OMG Elfpop noticed me!" How times have changed.
Long Live Father Tree Holt! Thanks for the invite, Vaeri! I couldn't even log into the new EQ forum so I was dreading a future of being forever locked out of the party.

| I'm totally down to do the "us vs them" thing. I used to be very enthusiastically in support of the comic- and I would pimp Elfquest to everyone I knew. I convinced a few people at least to start reading it- and I really admired the Pinis for being the team they were and creating this on their own. And I loved Wendy's art.
Now- I don't really care. That last exchange and shutting down the forum do not seem like coincidence to me- that all struck me as petty, intolerant and small minded. I wouldn't recommend Elfquest to anyone if I were asked. And I actually don't care much what happens in the story now. I'm following it just to finish it. But it's not a priority or anything. I want to spend as little money as possible along the way on their product, so I don't plan to buy anything extra. And I think the Pinis, yes- are human. And I also think they are jerks.
I like you guys. I've been hanging out with you guys since my early twenties- and I intend to keep in touch with y'all to the extent that I am able. So, at this point, I'm here for us- not them.
And frankly, I don't think they care. I am sure, in fact, that they don't care at all what we think. They have plenty of readers without us- and if a handful of people online think this of them:
http://nibsandink.tumblr.com/post/113886544550
I'm sure they wouldn't give half a minute to even to read it, much less consider it.
And as an aside- Wendy Pini's art is less than impressive lately. She never did recover from switching to Photoshop. She doesn't draw as well on a cintiq as she does with a pencil and pen... So I can't even say that I love that anymore. It's all just... adequate. Which has me pondering Richard's question lately- why am I still here?
It's just you guys- and some vague curiosity about how the story ends. That's it.

| Luna, I missed out on the whole conversation on the Scroll (or was it on Facebook?) that precipitated this, and I can't seem to find it anywhere. Maybe if I had read it, I'd feel more like you and others here have expressed. Is there anywhere where the conversation was recorded that hasn't been removed?
You know I respect you and the others here; and I know that sometimes things can get broken beyond repair. I don't mean to be dismissive of what happened to any of you, or of how you felt about it.

As humans... we are all creatures of "habit" But I still like to think what you said before that, Luna.... we are still here for the friends we've made that are so much like family to us all. | Oh, well, good to see a place where the Exodus has lead a lot of people. I wasn't the most active person on the scrolls (RL stress) but have been there for a long time. And I also loved the old scrolls better. And I disliked that the design changed often, sometimes changes just for the sake of change itself. But either way, the forums were a central spot for EQ fans to meet and discuss, share stuff they found or made (painted artwork, plastic art, poems, ...) * or just talk about general things. It was also a place for me that I visited at least since < 2002. *By the way feel free to visit http://www.elfquestfanart.com/ and post art. The sudden and unannounced change really made it for me. This is way to destroy a community. Fans that have been EQ fans for 20+ years were hit in the face and kicked in the stomach. It was a place of communication, a place of connection (!) of a lot of effort that was shared between people. And then, it all gets smashed, cut off without warning. So they can introduce some lame new design and totally reduced function. And sell it as a feature, not a bug. And then these words "Nothing like cleaning house and paring down the clutter..." Oh well. I am not sure if I see the context correctly but you could really read that like "the fans and forum are just a cruft that we finally got rid off". Maybe it was meant differently but after such a shock one has to make sure to be unequivocal in words. And Facebook sucks. Let me see, I have no account there thus I do not have any friends. I am not connected to anybody in the world. Just one of those nerds who cares about privacy and claims he sees behind the curtains of this lowly installation called facebook. Wait, but then why do I have so many existing friends in real life? Strange... Facebook is a ticking bomb. Moreover, Facebook does have all sorts of clutter. I followed the discussion between Lunakat and Richard by flying over it with my eyes. I must have missed the starting point, but I really lack time now and my eyes hurt from 10+ h monitor work. But either way, he might be (easily) offeneded. Or a bit blunt, but this is easily done in online discussions cause we lack psychic mediators like gesture and facial expressions and so on. But I guess a discussion, even a heated one shouldn't bring a forum down. In that context... Woebringer... still a name also to me. I couldn't yet follow any claims of latent racism yet, though. For a part it did seem to me that people were complaining that they (RWP) were not condemning the use of makeup in e.g. Leetah cosplay. That is, actually, a bit beyond me. I mean, if I'd ever want to do Rayek cosplay (fancy idea by the way ) I'd also have to use tons of makeup since my skin is rather pale. Or visit these tanning beds for a long time. I mean, I couldn't see the point where it was so wrong to paint your skin darker to better fulfill the expectation one has of a Leetah. Skin tone is just one part, the other are clothes, her movement style and so on if you want to impersonate her correctly. I do LARP for many years now and I put ears on and pretend to be a different species (that I sadly not am) and nobody complained yet to me about racism or speciesism. Also I see males and females playing the opposite gender - is that wrong now, too? Oh wait, no, that would make people scream bloody murder in terms of suppressing transgender people. And honesty I do not think that some Leetah cosplayer intended to hurt any people of colour - she was probably not even aware of the "blackface" stuff from the past. That (blackpaint) was new to me, too, by the way. So I am not sure what to think about all that closing down the forums, because I don't see behind these curtains. But whatsoever their motivation was - the execution was blunt and hurt a lot of people. And yes, with the clutter comment... wow, misinterpreting that or not, it also makes we wonder if I should still support such behaviour. Well, I put my 2 cents here and am happy that some people took care to have a place to catch all those elves that fell out of the air when the crystal palace exploded into many shards that are now littered everywhere. I am still in stressful waters of the river of life so don't expect much to see from me here. I might suddenly wake up if somebody screams "Rayek". > Is anyone still visiting the ED official site to give their comments? Yes and no. I just made an account, and wrote early a lengthy post on that "bringing discussion home". Took ages til it came through censorship or whatever that is.

| I agree with you JaRf, I didn't see the racism either, but that's because I'm an european or so I heard Maybe all the blackface issues are more an american thing, I don't know, as everyone I had history in school, and now what's the issue is about, but it's also important to recognize true mocking and just a costume with no harm intended, should we also point fingers on all the young scandinavian girls who spend thousands on tanning beds and spray tan? I also would like to say that we are all grown-ups her, mostly, and someone has said several times that they find Richard and Wendys behavior childish, and that could be, I also think Richard should have stepped out of that thread long before he got so mad, but they are the reason we are here, they made Elfquest that we all love, and I don't care for calling them names and talking trash about them, we are better than that, that makes us bullies to, and when I entered this forum I was told this place was different, we should all have a respectful tone to each other and about others, and we can disagree with their actions, but use our grown-up language? Luna, I don't know if it was you who wrote that blog you posted, or if it was about me or redhead ember or someone else you/that person thought about with “I’m European, I just don’t get racism”, but I think that is very childish, either I or her said that, but maybe we ain't that touchy about it as you americans? and that is not because we don't know rasicm, Hitler and the Holocaust ring a bell? I think it's pretty unfair to post that statement just because I/we didn't agree on a small subject. Can we please put this subject to rest for a while? if final quest ends up with just pale elves who celebrates that as a great thing, then I can agree with you. | |
