Who is your least favorite elf?

Indulge me, I am curious.

By 'least favorite' I don't mean 'most evil' (because almost everyone would probably agree it's Winnowill...)

I mean who is the one you least enjoy reading about/seeing, one you perhaps even wish wasn't part of the story at all?

You can mention several if you like.

Also, why do you dislike them?

Most of the "established" Go-Backs that followed after the original Quest... Skot, Krim, ... the Wave Dancers would take the cake, as a whole, if I ever bothered to remember any of their names... but I think most recently Tier.

Poor Teir. People can't even spell his name right.

Never bothered to know it. Never liked him. And now he's crammed down my throat in Final Quest. It's like a blotch in the story. Which is only going to get worse, once we see the Wave Dancers. (Unless it's to show them getting wiped out).

Sure, he was a bit emotional during the first parts of Final Quest, but I'd say he had a pretty good reason to:

First he got harshly reminded that his mother just left him, and yeah; she's dead so if he'd ever had any hope of running into her, too bad.
Then he had so suffer second-hand torture while also being forced to function as a leader.


And why are Skot and Krim only "established", as if they're not really established? They've been part of the Wolfrider tribe for over 500 years.

For a long time it was Chot. ANNOYING. The kind of guy I hated to meet on the school yard. But he has grown as a character ... and grew on me.

Honestly, there is no "least favorite" one. There are those I'm indifferent towards. But no matter who ... when I listened to otheres I learned to see those with other eyes - and found likeable traits. And there is DEFINITELY no ELF and no group in EQ I want to see extinct. Even when I wouldn't mind his/her fate ... I know there are fans who LOVE them  ... and I cannot wish bad for their favorites.

There is one Elf I simply Do.Not.Like. Kureel. Plain mean. And cowardly. Not even a good villian. Probably counts as "evil" ... XD

I don't think people stop and think about WHY he is the way he is. I mean let's be real here. He lived alone and on his own for HOW many years before coming across Ember and her tribe? Except for the fact that he's had no other elf interaction, no social or emotional experience with a "group" or "tribe".

So yeah, I can easily understand him being what some call "clingy", or emotionally weak. Any human being who was abandoned by their mother, and then left on their own accord for years and years without ANYONE else of their own kind would likely wind up like him, or worse, in my opinion

I find it to be justified with the life he's led, even tho at times it really annoyed me too. But the fact that he kept trying, and still does makes up for that momentary annoyance. And I completely respect his own opinion for having a cub just yet.

He wants to be emotionally sound when it comes to everything it takes to be "family" in order to to be the best sire he can be, when he didn't have one himself to learn from. Kudos for a character that's actually doing some growing in the series, even if it's at a slower pace than the others.

His purpose in the story and his personality are extremely weak. I wish the way he was brought back into the storyline was done with more depth, more meaning, instead of "Oh! We nearly forgot about this guy!" and just thrown into FQ like a fast curveball.

Feels like a "red-shirt" in waiting, although I really hope I'm wrong.

And his outfit... I guess the BeeGees had a yard sale

I think Vaya would be more emotionally clingy than Teir is. Sure, Vaya wasn't alone, but I feel like she suffered more "abuse" because of it - having her mother, there - but to never know the gentle touch of a mother. And yet, she still came out strong when she needed to be. Teir? I get drunk reading his panels, from the constant pouring of wine (whine) from him.

As I said, it's because of Final Quest. I don't know when he appeared before Final Quest (since I am most familiar with OG, Siege and Kings). And as I said before, if I even cared to remember any of the Wave Dancers, they'd be here too. I am sure if the Wave Dancers had a bigger part in Final Quest, my annoyance with them would be epic. They are the (or one of the) main reasons I disliked Discovery.

My least favorite is Rayek. He's done far too much damage in so many ways. I don't think he can be forgiven completely. It seems like every time he understands the damage he's done and tries to make amends, he still never really learns anything.

I also don't like Winnowill. She could have made so many different choices; she could have opened up to Voll about her concerns, even if he didn't listen. She could have healed Smelt and sent him away before he remembered what he was coming to Blue Mountain for. She could have kept Two-Edge sane. She could have tried to hold on to her sanity, even if it was a losing battle. But she didn't, and it's all cursed her. Yet I also identify with her to some extent, so she has a morsel of my sympathy.

I believe he's as good as dead, as well. He seemed very forced into the story. He's the one that will be "a Wolfrider dies in this issue!"

Teir appeared in HY. The time when the tribe had first split. And he hasn't been whining since they got rescued and settled on the top of that mountain, as in since he stopped having a reason to be a bit emotional.

As for my least favorite elf. I guess I'm a bit like Embala; there are none that I dislike as such, just some I don't really care about. Talno for example... Even so I would love to get to know those people a bit better.

See, I think it's unusual when someone can't find a character in a book, tv show, movie or comic, with a large cast, that they dislike. (And not dislike, because they're "evil" - but dislike, simply because they're written poorly). For example, it'd be easy to dislike Winnowill, because of her actions - but she was written as an excellent villain, and thus not a good reason to dislike her. Because as a villain, she nailed it. She was complex. (Not just, "I want to kill everyone!"). She had her reasons for doing what she did - much like Magneto, from the X-Men - justifying why they did what they did in their heads as almost being "right" in their minds.

ElfQuest has a HUGE pool of characters - and you and Embala can't find one you dislike how they're being written?

All the Wavedancers, collectively. And everyone who was in Barry Blair's New Blood- and this includes Suntop. Am I the only one to dislike Suntop/stream? He's just so milquetoast, to use an old fashioned word!

As for Windkin, it looks like he is being set up as a morally ambiguous or maybe even villainous character. So far I'm not liking him, but if he is handled well as a character, he may turn out interesting...

Poorly written characters does not make me dislike them, it just makes me not care. I dislike Winnie because she's well written, as a dislikeable character.

Take the example of characters dying.
With a poorly-written character I'm just "Oh... he died. Whatever."
With a well written character I'm either "Waaaah! NO! Not [insert character]." or "Yay! Suck it, BITCH!"
And then there was Winnie were it was mostly "Oh, SHIT!"

Wow, in the past I felt I was the only one who disliked Teir! I dislike, not hate, but until FQ I still had a hope he wouldn't recognize Ember, because I like her so much, and he is so...yeah...emo.
and yeah, I can understand his pain, blah blah, but look at some of the elves we have, Skywise for example, who is another of my least favorites, BUT... he lost his parents at birth, his first lovemate Foxfur, he lost Ruffel, he lost Nightrunner, but you don't see him having emotional breakdowns all the time. And yeah, I'm a little harsh and unfair here, I guess it's because I'm that kind of person, I don't like people who...what to call it in english, worship the sadness if you know what I mean? Your allowed to be sad, but you have to move on sometime.

Not a big Rayek fan either.

One of the things I like about Skywise is that he does not sit around crying over spilt milk. He just gets on with it. Also- I don't mind Teir. It's nice how we are all different, heh!

I think Blackbird means the term "drama queen"

And I understand a character like Skywise has been through the same, if not more hardships. But he had friends and family to help him through them all since he was a cub and an adult. Cutter had his friends and tribe to help him endure when his family was taken, Clearbrook had Treestump and Scouter and the tribe to help her through loss. Same with Moonshade and Strongbow after the murder of their cub.

Just to name a few who've suffered multiple pain.



Who did Teir have?

Not saying it as an excuse. But as an empathetic reason as to why he is the way he is.

As to my least favorites... Number one is Jink, because she messes up with other people's emotions (and memories!) just to get her own selfish pleasure.

Number two is Jethel. Annoying brat and badly drawn too.

Number three... you'll probably be surprised. It's Pike. He does have his good moments and a gentle heart. So does my father. My father is an alcoholic. So I never found Pike's drunkenness the least bit funny. Yes I know dreamberries are magical and help remember stories and so on... my father used to tell great stories too. It didn't make my childhood any easier.

Like when Original Quest came out, for me it was Rainsong and Woodlock. They were so just... in the background... lack any "Urmph!" that made them stick out. Ever.

I was about to argue with you, when I saw you mention Pike - but, you gave the single, best, rationalized, undeniably, unarguably, best answer for you, and I completely understand and respect your dislike towards Pike.

I loved Suntop as a kid. Have grown to dislike him (or not dislike him, feel more and more and more disconnected from him) as a character I care about.

I never liked Suntop too well. Didn't outright dislike him, butI always felt he was too much of a Gary Stu. I could much easier connect with Ember, who obviously wasn't perfect from the start, but has grown with every hardship - kind of like how I remember my own upbringing (although my parents did a fabulous, just... other parents didn't and so their kids... yeah).

At the beginning I would have said Rayek, but as I've had quite a few years to think (and to experience , you do see the world from quite different perspectives when you're 12 and you're 22), I have come to understand him better (but seeing as this thread isn't for that, I'll leave it out).

Otherwise I'm agreeing With Embala. No least favorite, actually.

Nah, Teir is the male version of Mary Sue. He has mysterious powers no one has ever known before (it's making animals to like him, who would not like that ability!), he has a tragic and mysterious background story. First his dad died out of love and his mother (and rest of the siblings) left him alone at Howling Rock, then it turned out he is the son of a major and popular character (who made him suffer soooo much). He becomes the love interest of one of the other major characters and makes her break up with her former boyfriend (although their relationship wasn't that strong to begin with). Everybody (the Wolfrider with wolf blood) likes him, only two spoilsports don't. He is great at everything that's cool, he's a superb hunter, a good warrior (even though he had never reason to train nor to use his sword fighting skills!), well versed in using plants and herbs and he can even cook chicken soup.

I don't like him either. I hoped he would die in Final Quest, now I try to ignore him.

Least favorite elf.... that's tough one. I had to perform a little thought experiment to help me figure it out.

I march Leetah, Strongbow and Scouter to the edge of a bottomless pit. I can only push one in...

I'd taunt Leetah, but not quite push her over. I'd made several false charges at Strongbow to see if his reflexes might knock him over. But can only push one?
