Silly Questions that Go Unanswered

Yeah, they are kind of vagrants, moving in somewhere and squatting until the place burns down, bumming rides to the next place they stay until the authorities mick them out or it burns down... And they wont stay off the dreamberry juice long enough to be admitted to a homeless shelter.... I tried offering a wolfrider a nice warm bowl of beef stew, and she turned her nose up at it, wondering why I ruined it by soaking in and some roots in hot water and pouring it into a bowl? Disnt even try it, gave it a sniff and turned away looming for a sewer rat. She kept the spoon, though, after seeing her reflection in the back side of it, couldnt take her eyes off of it as she scampered off. Never saw her again. All the lonely wolfriders, where do they all come from? All the lonely wolfriders, where do they all belong?

You know, there is a Tolkien character who shares the Wolfrider's distaste for cooked meat. Good old Gollum would fit right in. He can climb as well as any of them and sees well in the dark. He hasn't held a job in eons, bathes regularly but knows nothing else about grooming, and doesn't understand the concept of a diversified investment portfolio.

Im thinking that, food wise they should perhaps check out a Buffet... Perhaps at a casino in case anyone is up for games...

Actually, given a choice between a nausea-inducing ride in the Palace, and a tasty meal at the Thai Palace, I'd choose the latter.

I wonder if the Gliders ever bothered to make alcoholic beverages, cheese or leavened bread in their Blue Mountain complex. Probably too lazy.

To a degree, Id have to wonder why the gliders wouldnt resort to air-piracy, they were in an idea situation to essentially be viking raiding parties, raiding and pillaging the villlages for leagues around Blue Mountain, taking whatever they wished. They could rule as gods and demand offerings... Oh wait, thats what they did, at least for thr local village, and even took on slaves (willing slaves that are unknowingly being farmed for dreams are still slaves, they recieved room and board, but no freedom, informed concent, or wages, being treated no better than milk cows). Anyway, point being you are probably right, they are far too lazy, but they should have had stores of such things if anyone was making it.

Considering their numbers, their failure to reproduce, the fact that they were tied to an immobile base of operations, and fact that their bond-birds could be taken down by one good archer, I'd vote against the raiding idea.

Next silly question: Is Folding-Chair Bernie a Go-Back? Too many limbs, couldn't be Ekuar.

Heres a question... What if Strongbow decided, "hey, ya know what? The palace is a time machine... What if we go back and grab Crescent BEFORE she came up for air...."

It honestly could be a whole sub chapter of the main story... We have followed Sutop/stream, Treestump, now skywise and jink. We followed Cutter and Rayak, Kahvi, Two-Spear, Bearclaw... Why dont we have a story arc of Strongbow feeling a lack of connection to family, taking a pod back in time, and pulling Crescent as stated above. A psychic beacon could be left in her place, with the 'death-knell' eft to keep the timeline straight. As far as past Strongbow/Nightshade are concerned, nothing different happened, the humans still are responsible for Crescent's being gone, but she gets her own place and story in the future, as keeper of the way, perhaps in a new tribe started by Strongbow (he was always bucking for promotion, anyway, and now with the big boss out of the way he is free to do so.) Stuff happens, adventure and intrigue, hunting bears and running with wolves, Strongbow learns some great truth about The Way and its place in the cosmos, so on and so forth, and either Crescent follows mom or replaces dad.

What could go wrong?

Oh, and the psychic beacon inadvertantly wipes out all spiders... Oops...

So the question would then become, what happens to the latest iteration of the Father Tree, and what happens now that the fleas have no natural primary predators?

Well, you could use the Palace to rescue every Elf who ever got killed doing something stupid, like Ruffel, but then the Palace would get so much use you'd have to put a Lyft sticker on the window.

Yeah, but it was sitting around for a while. Just take a pod back to when it was abandoned, use it every few hundred years as preventative maintenance, and itll just be "warmed up" for when it gets 'discovered'... And youd have a few dozen trolls you could save as well... I mean not the kings, of course, but maybe Smelt?

Well, there was a Wolfrider named One-Leg... every time he had to use a tree, he fell over...

We Trolls harvest and dry moss as a disposable liner for goat-hide diapers, but we also weave linen into cloth diapers. Laundries and linen service are major industries. We have reliable sources of clean water, and have reduced our carbon footprint considerably with modern sewage treatment and geothermal water heating.

What if another, different Palace landed on the World of Two Moons? What if the Elves who decided to live in it became shorter and darker?

I have no answer, but an add on question: what if the preservers on that palace were a bit larger, say Tyldak sized... would the minaturized Cutter/Timmain be more or less annoyed with them, and would there be a Preserver War?

And and... since the High Ones would be the smaller ones, would ths little door to the scroll room just be to keep the preservers out?

Recently I brought this up in my new fanfiction thread. Is the Palace like Dr. Who's TARDIS? When we see it on the ground from the outside, in perspective with landscape and other structures, it looks too small to hold all of those High Ones and Groundlings. Consider that their difference in size means the Groundlings would have needed their own living quarters, workstations and plumbing fixtures.

Some of the High Ones were in suspended animation, in a separate area, unless they were tucked away under the dining table.

There's also the issue of privacy. Unless the Groundlings had some kind of secret language, they would have needed a soundproof room in which to plot a rebellion.

I suspect the answer is that it's just comic book fiction, the same reason no one notices that Superman is Clark Kent without glasses, or that Spider-Man's body weight doesn't pull the stucco off masonry walls.

From that perspective, yes, they are nearly exactly the same- external cloaking device to blend in with its surroundings, inside adapts to whatever the will of the occupants want, etc... and either it is sensitive to the Groundlings or can be mined/tunneled, as is shown (I believe in Jink! or Future Quest) that there are paths known to the Trolls that are not to the Elves. As to the scale of inside to outside... several depictions are nearly impossible to be as shown and have enough room for half of what is seen for the inside, but also, in drawings especially, scale does not always translate corrently, so its hard to say.

If I may, scientifically speaking, if they have a lump of something that can move through time and space instantaniously, its not a stretch to say it doesnt conform to normal dimensions, espeically since the interior space could even be stretched relative to or even disconnected from the outside. (And I mean, saying "science" in that if we lose the rules that keep us from moving through space and time as depicted, we lose the rules that require an internal space to fit within an external space... and even then, theres soke theoretical reality bending already allowed using Enstinian Relativity, where spacial dimensions shrink and grow when gravity or motion is involved... sorry, I love thinking about this stuff, so I could definately go overboard on this subject if I dont watch it)

As above, its as canon as Jink and Future Quest that there are passages known only to the trolls.

Meh, life is but a dream. If I looked into Spaider Man too much Id wonder how it is that Peter Parker's chiropractor doesnt startbto suspect, or why he doesnt enter gymnastics without his powers and get all the scholarships and gold medals... he's either abnormally flexible or always suffering from whiplash... cant have it both ways. Also, is his web biodegradable or photodegradable? Because the city ought to be covered in a layer of cobwebs after a few years, with the thickest part of them nearest to his appartment...

But why should we worry about specific interpretations of fiction when we cant even decide on a "proper interpretation" or modelnof reality? They still cant decide if we only exist as 4 dimensional holograms on the surface of a 5th dimensional black hole, or if we are inside a normal 4-D black hole already, or if things are as they appear...

Life is but a dream, so why not dream your life away. Lol.

Taco night ROFL!!! Actually, I remember a story ending with Peter Parker failing to get enough credits in time for (college?) graduation, because he didn't take physical education classes.

Thanks for the details about the secret tunnels. This will explain how Groundlings involved in the rebellion were able to keep it a secret from the High Ones, who would have bumped their heads on the ceilings.

They also kept the rebellion a secret, or at least a rumor, to those Groundlings whom they didn't want to include in their plans.

This was inspired by the culture at my day job, in which only certain people know what is going on in certain departments.

I suspect this is because the snobs communicate only by texting, and because the management lacks literacy.
