For fun's sake I re-read the old blurbs...
The blurbs start talking of Angrif's "massive assault" on the elves in #6, in #9 the fleet is "Cutter's greatest concern" and since #15 they are close to the Father Tree (already seven issues!).

Since #8 Suntop's call is out and we get repeated talks, how the elves are going to decide and to leave and to stay and, yeah, decisions again

Small wonder FiQu is so unsatisfying, it promises and promises and never delivers

I've thought about how to ensure a clear assignment of eggies and nests ... so you need not guess about rule #6. The nests will go with a number now - and the eggies will show the same number. No guessing where the eggie belongs to - no problem with unknown relationships and faded color hints.

And don't forget - the 48-hour-rule applies only for 48 hours from nest drop time. After this you can gather whatever lies around unfound. Have fun!

OMG ... the pixel heros were kind of legendary figures when I made first contact with dolling. ^^ They are hilarious. Nostalgic fun. And in a way I must admire the ability to simplify and standardize in the way this base requires. Simplify - and still show recognizable detail.
The Bittie elves look gracious ... and they are full of precious detail. I'm looking forward to see more of these masterpieces, Kat.
I'm so glad the missing sprites and other miniature dollz are back again. There are memories ... and of course my own chars who became part of your work. Much appreciated gifts.


I've recognized Feldva and Auriette! Especially Feldva ... there is this distinct color scheme and even on the mostly lovely Magical Elf maker her attitude shows through. Great job, Prism! I see her playing with the knife ... just to demonstrate her skills and intimitate possible opponents. (could swear I've written all this already yesterday ...)
Auriette turned out strangely cute and pensive ... the freckles are an unexpected addition. One of her many facets? ... or a youth picture maybe ...

This Troll Elf girl is more on the elfin side, I guess? She's kinda cute - I like the rosypink against her greygreen skin. The Gemsona one actually is closest to this first try. The Dinogeddon is the best take on Truffles in my opinion - featuring her Troll side. Just awesome! The fairy maker of course underlines her elfin heritage - I like to see the darker color scheme again. And the Pixie maker kinda fuses all the former versions. Looks like she found a friend in the caves! ^^

Thanks for giving Nox some love, Prism. I see her spirit wandering the night skies ... working her magic.

I don't think so! Looking at it I see the difference between our takes on spirit Guin in situation and environment. Mine is Guin as part of the Questers Group - a spirit shadow in the night. Yours is her fueled by the Palace - bursting with sparkling magic. She's fantastic!

Horsebackriding, running. I used to write a few years ago but I stopped because it's super hard and takes forever. I wrote a 80k word story once which really means I wrote about 350k words in total. After that experience I like to say I don't hate myself enough to want to become a writer

tbh I don't watch a lot of movies because they tend to disappoint me/ I find too many flaws in the storylines. (That's what writing will do to you. There's a Trope around every corner etc.) I prefer video games or TV shows, they tend to be better written these days.

...yeah, that, lol! I prefer JRPG's and action shooters (cheap fun).

The big nest is revealed already - Redhead guessed right about the "elves going into the desert" - the original Wolfrider tribe. But I'm still waiting that someone figures out the "good reason" for the not matching numbers of nest eggs and hidden eggs ... and the complete symbolism of the nest.

Just my tuppence worth on the subject.

I haven't joined in any discussion because I haven't read it. I read up to #6 then stopped buying it. The reason I stopped buying it is because Forbidden Planet stopped stocking it because no one but me was buying it and they were losing money on it. I refuse to pay triple the cost of the actual comic to get it shipped to me when I can barely afford the rent and food at the same time. I wasn't overly enamoured with it but I was going to continue to buy it and see how it all came together in the end, but that decision was taken out of my hands eventually anyway. So I don't think I am qualified to comment on anything that has happened in the threads and I'm going to put my hands up and admit that I haven't read anything anyone has posted on the subject either. I dip in from time to time, look around, see that I have absolutely no idea what anyone is talking about and leave. Not a lover, not a hater, I'm an indifferent-er. 

Also, I do log in every single day and make sure things are running smoothly behind the curtains. I Check what I can in the threads, but not all of them all the time. If I do see anything that raises an eyebrow, I share it with the other two admins asap. We consult on EVERY forum decision/important thing that goes on. It may not look like we are around much but we absolutely are.

It's not "the ultimative reader's guide" but good enough for a smooth read. I'll give you some information about the different series so you can decide by yourself.

Hidden Years #4, #8, #9,5 and #10-15 - single issues filling gaps and giving background information for the time from the return of the Palace until the main story lines SHARDS and HIDDEN YEARS start. Read before starting with Shards and the rest of HY!

Main storyline - Shards (#1 til #15) and Hidden Years (from #16 til the end) - run parallel and influence each other.
Shards #10 / HY #24 and Shards #12 / HY #25 are directly connected - read the Shards issue before you look in the corresponding HY issue - spoiler warning!

About same time as Shards and Ember's Hidden Years storyline
New Blood #14-35 - Forevergreen Arc ... no direct connections with Shards/HY but it has necessary informations about the Sunvillagers' and Windkin's fate.
Would be no fault to read New Blood #11, #12, #13 before you start the Forevergreen Arc with NB #14.

Shards #16 gathers both the three story lines and the scattered elves.

Even though it's a nice gesture, that Angrif's troops are still honour his final wish and attack the elves nevertheless, humans don't react this way. Normally they would turn and figure out, who's going to be the next king (as the Mongols and the Huns did). Just name one historic example, where an army continued an attack even though they knew their leader was dead.

The Original Quest ran 20 issues. Just 4 less than Final Quest.
The Original Quest was their first real dive into comics (not sure if Wendy had done writing elsewhere).
And the pacing of the Original Quest is infinitely better.

The Original Quest was broke into "arcs."
The arcs were (I feel) -
1. Issues #1 through #5 (Lose home to life at the Sun Village)
2. Issues #6 through #10 (life fast forwarded w/cubs to Forbidden Grove)
3. Issues #11 through #15 (The entire Blue Mountain Saga)
4. Issues #16 through #20 (the fight against the frozen trolls for the Palace)

The Final Quest?
So far it feels like:

Arc 1: All the elves take their sweet time getting to the Palace, while over here Ember and Tier are going on and on about Recognition, and then she gets captured, and then the humans prepare for war, and let's go back to the Palace, oh by the way - all these elves arrive. And hey, new reader - look, Timmain and Skywise are Recognized! What do you mean you have no idea what that means? Or the impact?

I think you make a very good point (I forgot to quote it), that Final Quest makes NO attempt - ZERO! - to even ease any NEW readers to the series. So if someone decided to pick up ElfQuest: Final Quest, for the first time, never having heard about ElfQuest but thought the art looked great - would have NO idea from it's very first issue to understand WHAT was going on.

Some of my sources...

Flashback #1 (Turning Tide) - first elves to be killed by humans (if we want to be technical and *if* it's Haze who pushes Coral's boat in flashback #3, then Coral was the very first human victim, and Haze and Farbright probably died right after), as well as deaths that took part only "last storm season" before Turning Tide. We later learn that Skimmer died before Moonmirror's parents ("the storms had come and gone only twice since Skimmer and Surge vanished").

Flashback #2 (Metamorphosis) - set after Coral's death, when Surge wanted to fight the humans back.

Flashback #3 (EQ2#1) - Coral's funeral, set about 500 years before Turning Tide.

FLashback #3b (EQ2#1) - (cont.) from Coral's funeral to the departure of Zephyr's band (when?).

Flashback #4 (EQ2#2) - Skimmer healing a random elf. Took place before her death in the storm season before WD#1.

Flashback #5 (EQ2#5) - Wavecatcher recounts that he met Yun "eight-and-four floodings ago". What's a flooding and how often does it occurr?

Flashback #6 (EQ2#21) - Zephyr's band takes off from Crest Point (some undetermined time after Coral's death).

Flashback #6b (EQ2#21) - (cont. of the above) Zephyr's band settles at Cavernsong after much time at sea. Later on, Wavelet is born.

Flashback #6c (EQ2#21) - (cont. of the above) Zephyr's band is slaughtered, when Wavelet's still a tiny infant (Marish found her a newborn babe in the woods). If we can figure out Wavelet's age then we'd know indicatively for how long Wavecatcher has been wandering before he met Yun. Trickier to say how much time it took for Zephyr's band to reach Cavernsong so we can figure out how much spent they spent journeying and how much in their new home.

Flashback #7 (EQ2#31) - WaveDancers have already settled at Crest Point, and there are three healers in the tribe, when young Reef goes off to explore.

Flashback #7b (EQ2#31) - (cont. of above) set short after Tyldak dropped Winnowill in the island at the end of SABM. Reef runs into her.

Flashback #7c (EQ2#31) - (cont. of above) Reef is "broken" by Winnowill.

Flashback #8 (EQ2#31) - First and only mention of Stormsong and how he died. No hint as to where his death should be placed in the timeline, tho.

Flashback #14 (missing chapters) - Darshek sees the ghostly Pirn and Shadowcrest. If he knows what both of his mother's lifemates looked like, he must be the oldest of the siblings (because Pirn died when he was just a baby. Longfin says that "Darshek barely knew his father Pirn", and Salt later comments "Pirn will be happy to see the grown son he last saw as a newborn pip". So Pirn, at the very least, was already long deceased at the time of Coral's funeral in flashback #1).
